Live reviews
Houston born rapper/singer Kirko Bangz has often been unfairly branded as a one hit wonder. After the 25 year old’s autotune heavy “Drank in my Cup” saw him propel to the top of the US Charts and find international success, it seemed that this was going to be his 15 seconds of fame. Yet eight mixtapes later and one studio album on it’s way, Kirk Jerel Randle is still proving that he has what it takes as a southern Rap and R&B artist.
Wearing a tank top, jeans slung below his waist and enough bling on his wrist to put someone through university, it’s obvious that Bangz is living up to the stereotypical rapper lifestyle and that this is going to be a stereotypical rap show, as he asks the crowd to put their hands up in the air. However that’s not a complaint, when a rap show is done this slickly. There’s no denying his on stage charisma, and as the crowd is majorly female, it’s no surprise that as he begins with “What yo’ name is?” his voice is drowned by the relentless sound of girls screaming at fever pitch. After some friendly banter with his infatuated audience, he propels into some of his more recent hits, such as his collaborative effort “Young and Getting’ It” with Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill. Ever the crowd pleaser, Kirko finishes with “Drank in my Cup” which has the whole crowd raucously singing along as his DJ mutes the backing track for the chorus. The future seems bright for Bangz, his upcoming album “Bigger than Me” seems destined for success and when that inevitable tour comes round again, you’d be a fool to miss out!
Kirk Jerel Randle better known by his stage name Kirko Bangz broke from beneath the radar in 2011 after he found chart success with 'Drank In My Cup'. Unfortunately the uninterested masses dismissed the rapper after this, but those who stuck with him were rewarded with lively tours and slick performances from Kirk himself and his accompanying musicians showcasing the solid remaining material from the debut LP 'Bigger Than Me'
He was known on the underground far before he had any form of single success with his 'Procrastination Kills' mixtape series, and he plays a variety of material lifted from those releases this evening. The more devoted fans make themselves heard during this to which Randle's entourage hypes them further. The heavy bass keeps the pace throughout the evening and keeps the crowd moving along with the music. He plays a collaboration with Meek Mill in order to demonstrate his freestyle skills before a note perfect version of 'Drank In My Cup' sets the whole roof off, easily proving there is more to Kirko Bangz that one song.
Kirk Jerel Randle, AKA Kirko Bangz, (great stage name) is the quarter of a century rapper/singer from Houston, Texas with a degree in communications, who knew?! He has released multiple singles, his second one debuting at number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100, since then, it has reached number 29 on the chart and number one on the Hot Rap Songs chart. Anyway, lets get to the nitty gritty, forgive my colloquial terminology. This guy has so much swagger on stage walking out with nothing but a microphone, from the moment he walks out on this stage he commands this audience, with quite a lot of ease. It all comes so easy to him. “Keep It Trill” is the huge smash single that gets the party started tonight, everyone in this club doing their thing, bouncing, with their hands in the air, waving them front to back. “Rich” which features August Alsina on the studio recording, is the song that people sing at the top of their lungs, filling this atmosphere with good vibes. A memorable evening with Kirko Bangz.
