Biography
Living in Australia made Iggy Azalea feel isolated from the hip-hop world and she was inspired to move to America, which is considered the birthplace of hip-hop. She was influenced by the Atlanta, US rap group TLC as a teen and would soon live part of her life in their hometown. After someone from Interscope Records convinced her to move to Los Angeles, US she began releasing videos of herself rapping by posting them on YouTube. When she posted her music video for the song “Pu$$y” on YouTube it immediately went viral and launched her career into the mainstream.
Soon after her success on YouTube she released her first mixtape in 2011 titled “Ignorant Art”, which featured several guest appearances from rappers like YG and Problem. She had plans to release her debut album in the Summer of 2012 but she decided to postpone in order to allow the rapper T.I. to produce the album. Instead of releasing her debut album in 2012 she decided to sign with Grand Hustle Records and release an EP titled “Glory”. The EP featured several songs that became hits such as “Murda Bizness”, which featured T.I. on the track.
In October 2012 she released her second mix tape and then started to tour for her new material in early 2013. Her touring schedule in 2013 included several notable gigs that helped push her further into stardom such as being the opening act for musicians like Rita Ora, Nas, and Beyonce.
Before her debut album “The New Classic” was released she put out her most famous single “ Fancy”, which featured Charli XCX. The single went onto achieve great commercial success and reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The single is incredibly catchy containing electronic synth leads and hip-hop vocal chants, and is a consistent go-to song for dance clubs. In April 2014 Iggy Azalea finally released her long awaited debut album “The New Classic” to commercial success. It reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and was a considerable success for a female rap album.
Since the release of Iggy Azalea’s debut album she has collaborated with Ariana Grande on her single “Problem” as well as Jenifer Lopez on her album “A.K.A.” Apart from music Iggy Azalea is involved in modeling and fashion as well as some involvement in the film industry with a role in Fast & Furious 7. Iggy Azalea’s strong influence of Southern rap and old school hip hop are present throughout her music and is part of the reason that makes her such a compelling performer.
Live reviews
Aussie pop-rap sensation Iggy Azalea (real name Amethyst Kelly) has had an inspirational journey to her current seat at the rap royalty table. Scarpering to Miami aged 16 – on her lonesome – to live the American dream and 'make it', she hustled and spat her way into the mentoring arms of T.I., whose lessons put her on the trajectory to superstardom. Now, with a veritable platoon of fans, majestic singles like “Work”, “Bounce” and “Fancy” (featuring Charli XCX), and a deserved confidence, she's set to take over the world. Recent beef with Nicki Minaj has done little to dampen her blazing rise (she recently made UK history alongside Ariana Grande, becoming the first artists to top the UK chart which now includes streaming data).
Her sets, lined with mammoth tunes from her debut, The New Classic, are explosive, glorious cavalcades of glee. Festooned in outlandish costumes and kaleidoscopic lights, Azalea performs with what can only be described as 'swagger', strutting up and down the stage, teasing the throngs of screaming fans, and whipping the venues into a frenzy. Catch her before she ascends to the dizzying heights of arena tours, and marvel at her sublime stage presence.
Amethyst Kelly, better known as Iggy Azalea was one of the success stories of 2014 as this Australian runaway had a huge amount of chart success globally. Her refreshing feminist take on hip hop quickly won her a huge fan base and whilst attending a sold out date at London's Shepherds Bush Empire I quickly realised exactly why that was.
Charismatic as she is confident, Iggy appears onstage to huge cheers accompanied by dancers and a lot of bass. First big hit of the night 'Bounce' gets the crowd whipped into frenzy as Iggy and her dancers conduct the crowd. Demonstrating her freestyle ability along with her pop sensibilities, there is a massive emphasis on enjoying the good time whilst spectating her gig.
Her Rita Ora duet 'Black Widow' gets great reaction from the British audience having been a huge chart hit upon its release. The final lead up of tracks made you realise Iggy's influence on the charts in 2014 as she performs four mega-hits 'Problem', 'Work', 'Fancy' and 'Beg For It' in quick succession. Modest throughout, Iggy Azelea clearly took the right option to leave Australia as her success is startling.
This show was wonderful! Out of five stars, I would give it a 4.5. The singers included, in order, Melanie Martinez, Troye Sivan, Mike Posner, surprise guest Ruth B, Charlie Puth, then Iggy Azalea. It was absolutely amazing, and if ever one of the singers comes to Indy again, I will definitely go. This was a great show. All of the people did a fantastic job.
although the show was canceled, it was never postponed. All her other shows got a new date but this one didn't which sucks. Wouldn't want to see her anymore anyways even though I was really looking for her and her guests. Got my money back though.
Perfeita! Dava pra ver o quanto ela se divertiu no palco, com certeza iria em outros <3
Perfect! I could see how much fun she had on stage, I would definitely go to others <3
Amazing, very energetic energy! <3 She played the best songs and we could see she was having fun. The opening shows were very good too. She's an incredible artist for sure.
