First gigs eh? 99 times out of a hundred they are painfully awkward affairs that many of the world’s biggest bands and artists would like to forget in a hurry, let alone the thousands of bands that never play another gig after a disastrous debut effort. On the other hand, the remaining one in a hundred is pretty damn good, however, Hertfordshire boy Kriss Knight (A.K.A Kryder) has the one first gig in a million. His live debut consisted of him opening for Tiesto, one of the world’s biggest EDM artists whose label he’d just signed to, in front of eight thousand fans in the world’s biggest nightclub. The key thing here is that he still managed to earn it, cutting his teeth for eighteen years in the underground DJ circuit and learning to control a crowd like a seasoned pro. It’s in every set he does; a mastery of peaks and troughs that can sometimes feel more like a rollercoaster than music. It may not be high art but good God damn if it’s not effective. Pure, pumping, high energy dance music that could start a riot in a morgue and comes highly recommended to anyone looking for the best evening out they can find.
