The show in Conway, AR was a blast. It was more rocking than one might anticipate—in a New Orleans up tempo kinda way. There were also very touching moments in remembrance to Jim that get a little teary eyed. I was blown away by the musicianship. Any guitarist that is going to tackle Maury's part is going to be of the highest caliber. The drummer played swampy ghost notes and extremely complicated beats. The bass player not only funked it up, but also sang sweet harmonies. Then A.J.—tore the heck out of the piano. A.J. has a beautiful voice that is obviously studied in poplar and jazz techniques that is comfortable like an old denim shirt.
A.J. Croce was a powerhouse of piano, guitar and vocal talent. He was passionate about putting a good show on for his audience. He is quick witted with warm hearted stories about breaking into the business. I purchased three CDs and have been listening to them everywhere I go now in my car.
I hope he returns to this area again. I and others will wants to see and listen to him again.
