Being a singer-songwriter isn’t always the easiest job in the world. Armed often with little more than an acoustic guitar, the singer-songwriter has to go out night after night and let it all out with no band to hide behind, just them and the crowd. That’s what makes it even more amazing that someone like Kim Richey is able to still do what she does at a high level 2 decades into her career.
With her distinct Americana sound, a little bit country, a little bit pop, she has crafted some beautiful compositions, often taking the time to explain to the crowd their meanings and origins which helps to further build up the emotional tension surrounding her sets. Her voice is gentle but not weak, full of sorrow but powerful in its resolve. After years of sharing her emotions with eager crowds that hang on every word, Kim Richey’s talents have not diminished but rather have grown stronger, feeding off the connection she shares with her fans. If you’re looking for heart-felt acoustic music, there’s no one better than Kim.
First visit to the Warming House. Nice listening space, quite small, excellent sound. Kim Richie gave a very enjoyable show, with plenty of favorites and a few new songs I had not heard. Have always loved how her lyrics and great vocals are further enhanced by the great accompanying musicians on her albums, but her solo acoustic work was quite lovely, voice in fine form. I'm sorry I missed the name of her keyboardist who joined for most of the set, but he provided a fuller sound with a bit of rhythm, good backing vocals, and a couple of short but solid solos. Kim gave a very personable performance suitable to such a small space, sharing fun anecdotes and backgrounds on her song, life on the road, etc. I've always thought she was seriously underappreciated since I first learned about her, and continue to think so, but know she was greatly appreciated by the small but enthusiastic crowd that enjoyed her show last night. Highly recommended.
Beautiful singing, hilarious song introductions, another great concert. Almost as great as the previous Kim Richey concerts we have attended. The only minor drawback was a problem in the sound system that lead to a low level constant buzz in the speakers, which was slightly distracting, but for Kim, even a fire alarm couldn't detract from this wonderful experience. Truly one of the most beautiful, and soulful voices I have ever heard, singing great songs written and performed by one of the most under appreciated artists of our time. We are just glad that we got to see her another time and can't wait for the next time she come to town.
Cool, funky, small venue, perfect for up-close exposure to Kim's beautiful voice and amazing harmonizing with her accompanying musicians, Jordy and Claire.
Have wanted to see Kim in person for many years, and was not disappointed. Truly a singer/songwriter extraordinaire!
