Biography
Whether you remember him as Puff Daddy, Diddy or P Diddy or for his silver boiler suit, there’s no denying the impact that Combs has had on the entertainment industry, starting from the bottom and soaring to the top. Back in the day Combs worked as an intern at Uptown Records where he worked on campaigns with artists Jodeci and Mary J Blige.
After leaving Uptown, in 1993 Combs launched Bad Boy Records in conjunction with Arista Records. His first signing to the label was soon to be legend and friend The Notorious B.I.G. and later included Faith Evans and Carl Thomas. With the successes of his artists on his label, Combs took his hand to rapping assuming the alias Puff Daddy in 1997. Later that year he released his debut single “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down” featuring Mase and shot straight into the charts at number one going double platinum.
After the B.I.G.’s tragic murder early 1997, Combs along with 112 and Faith Evans collaborated on the touching tribute for the late star on the track “I’ll Be Missing You” (sampling Genesis’ “I’ll Be Watching You”) which soared to number one across the world for many weeks.
The following year Bad Boy Records released the compilation album “No Way Out” featuring their esteemed roster, as well as debuting at number one in the charts and going platinum seven times, the album also won the Grammy for Best Rap Album of 1998. Live reviews
P. Diddy is one of those artists that is always interacting with the crowd and he showed this very well during the performance that I was at. I was lucky enough to be in the front row and he came out with his signature white thank top and gold necklace on.
Everyone around me was yelling and cheering happy to see P. Diddy and I was clapping ready for the show to start. P. Diddy started out with the song 'Come to Me' that was off his newest album at that time. I had listened to the album to prepare myself more for the concert and I was able to sing along to every single word. The light show that P. Diddy has planned for the venue went very well. There were blue flashing strobe not only during his first song but with every song that followed.
All of us in the crowd were cheering loudly after each song he performed and he demanded he give us an encore before the night was over. P. Diddy was a humble guy and felt pleased that the fans wanted to hear more of him and he was glad to give us an encore. It was a great experience. Some people may think rappers are not that great to see live but I thought that P. Diddy put on an amazing show.
Quite possibly the best concert I've been to! It was amazing. From the performers to the quest celebs and surprise artist hands down best concert this year! P. Diddy definitely out did himself. I have to say I was highly impressed and satisfied. I'm glad I got a chance to experience it.
