Mindi Abair, is one of those Saxophonists who when she takes to the stage, she always makes a lasting impression. Some people may refer to her as selling out but she is positively just breaking down the boundaries that pigeon-hole jazz in the confined space that it is and transforms it so effortlessly into something that appeals to the masses in such a refreshing style.
Seeing her do her thing live is truly remarkable. She holds the audience so well with her instrument, especially with her own material, which is just truly captivating. The way that she plays, tells a story from start to finish, including all of the detail. It is no surprise that she has produced 10 number 1 radio singles and 5 major label solo releases that have climbed right to the top of the contemporary Jazz Charts, all of which, she plays this evening, to this fantastically receptive crowd who cheer her on throughout this explosive set. “In Hi-Fi Stereo” is one of the biggest songs of the set, with patrons even singing along!
have seen her twice once opening for josh groban way back in the day! fresh and inspiring and unique. recently at summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with the boneshakers. she oozes sex appeal and smooth RandB modern fusion Jaz. one of the hidden gems not yet getting the accolades she deserves. please come to Jazzstl soon!
Excellent show. I surprised myself at how much I enjoyed Mindi and The Boneshakers. The sound and musicianship was excellent and I didn't realize Mindi sang so well...and the icing on the cake was the vocals of Sweet Pea Atkinson. When she comes to town again, I plan on being there.
This show was awesome! Full of energy and FUN!!! I know Mindi is amazing, but the other artists were also top notch. Mindi performed all of her hits and even performed some new music. I had so much fun and can’t wait to seem them again.
Mindi was great as usual. Her band (Bone Shakers) was also great. They mixed things up quite a bit. Mindi shared the stage with the other musicians. Different from prior Mindi performances, but very entertaining.
