The punk rock band, Screaming Females, have been a band that I’ve followed since their emergence into the industry back in 2005. After Mike and Marissa formed their first band in school, they tried out several different musicians before settling on the talented Jarett Dougherty, and becoming the Screaming Females. The great thing about the trio is that they’re all incredibly talented musicians, and watching Marissa performing an incredible guitar solo, dancing around the stage, lying on the floor, and head banging in their first track, Bell, was incredible and I knew I was in for an incredible show.
The way that the band work together really demonstrates their commitment to their work, as it’s evident that years of practice have gone into perfecting their sound, and their set up. Marissa’s unique voice is complimented by the harmonies that Mike provides throughout the show, and their hard rock sound gets a lift through their harmonisations.
When the played the title track from their new EP Chalk Tape, they each took an instrumental solo, which was incredible to watch, and see their talent truly showcased. They are all incredible performers and musicians, and definitely a band you should check out live.
If you're wondering if you should buy a ticket for a Screaming Females show the answer is a resounding yes. They are not fucking around, the show was amazing. The entire set was incredibly tight, polished and had so much energy. Watching Marissa play live was crazy, she's an amazing guitarist.
This band is criminally underrated and you need to see them live, easily one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Unrelated icing on the cake, everyone in the band was incredibly nice when I was chatting with them after the show while they were packing up. They'd been on the road forever, just played what I assume was an exhausting show and were busy packing their gear so they could get some sleep, drive 5 hours to Montreal to play another show tomorrow and they still took time to talk to me and seemed to genuinely appreciate that I liked their music.
Tl;dr Screaming Females are fucking amazing, go see them, say hi to the band, they're good people. Shout out to Rebecca for being super nice and looking after the stuff I bought.
First I want to thank my daughter Cassie for exposing me to the Screaming Females!
I had a great time. Marissa and the guys really blew me away with their live performance. I have been to well over 400 shows in my 50 years n Earth and Marissa is easily the best female lead guitarist I have ever seen live. All three were high energy from beginning till the end.
They are all seasoned musicians and you could tell right away. I hope to see this solid band again in the future!
Once again, thanks to my daughter, and thanks to the band for a great night with family and a solid band.
I'll be honest, I went to the gig with moderate expectations, I love Rose Mountain, and hoped the music would render well live, but you never really know.
I was very pleasantly surprised with the energy and presence the band had on stage, the singer is dynamite, they played songs not always sticking to what's on the record, improvising bits, that sounded like a cross between Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth.
Overall I'd say it shows that they been at it for a while, and they know how to put on a show, if you are up for something high energy or digs the band, you should go for it.
have you ever felt that rock and roll is dead? have you ever felt that no interesting music is being played by new young bands? have you felt disappointed by a live show and promised never to see another one again? if you answered yes to any of the previous questions go to a screaming females show and fall in love with live music again. this band shreds without mercy.
Screaming Females & the Knitting Factory were great. Raucous crowd only added to the fun. The bar next store & whiskey barbecue place across the street were the perfect pregame. Props to Red Bamboo for dinner in the W village prior to it all Both Pujols & the other band were good too!
Screaming Females is one of my favorite band, it was a pleasure to see them in live, the show was awesome with a great atmosphere.
A performance worthy of the biggest stadium in a friendly setting.
Whish see them in Belgium.
This show was explosive, expansive and flawless. Marissa gives every bit of herself and then some on guitar and vocals. Go see this band. (I need to write more words to reach the minimum requirement for submitting a review.)
Overall all of the bands put on good shows and the screaming females killed it, brought it back to life and killed it again. The crowd energy was mixed, but that's a cultural problem not an issue with the performances. Lol
