What happens when rock and synth pop join forces? The result is a band called Paper Route. While many bands have combined various different elements to their music to add a different edge, this Nashville band took it to another level by adding a psychedelic element to their sound, which can be a bit of an acquired taste for some who see them live. Paper Route jumped onto the music scene in 2006 with the band’s self-titled debut EP and followed with two more EPs before the release of the band’s first album, ‘Absence,’ in 2009. Their second album, ‘The Peace of Wild Things’ was released in 2012.
As I previously said, the band is not necessarily for everybody. Seeing them perform at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey, years ago, proved that. A sold out show, the band piled all their instruments and sound machines onstage. While there were only four members, their equipment took so much room that even the members themselves had difficulties movie. But that’s rock and roll for you, I guess. As they started to play selections from their ‘Absence,’ like ‘All We Are Forgotten’ and ‘Dance on Our Graves,’ it was clear who were their big fans and who just so happened to stumble upon the show.
It wasn’t that they didn’t sound good. However, the combination between the spacey electronic effects and the indie rock just didn’t seem to work for everyone’s ears. And soon people started to fade into the background. While Paper Route do have talent, it might be best to check a couple of their tracks out first before heading out to one of their gigs.
Paper Route is one of the most under rated bands out there in the United States and else where. They definitely rocked at the Spanish Moon as always! I am so happy with their new direction and wish more people would get on board. Because I know this band will always be down to Earth and wouldn't change for anyone. Back about talking about show, I highly recommend seeing Paper Route live before you die.
