All of my praise & accolades goes out to Gabriella Cilmi simply because she earned my respect & recognition that she deserves. Her style, voice combined together with working her past life experiences into her music is titillating. Did I mention "her voice." Her voice is what captivated me the more I listened the more I realized that she ranks top in my playlists. I love all of her songs on her albums, usually when you purchase an album to find out you only have 3 faves out of the whole album - not in her situation - with her arsenal of music and remixes makes her a hit with me, she has gained my vote. I have seen her live performances via YouTube but as of yet due to unfortunate circumstances I have not had the opportunity to see my favorite artist's live performance! Hope to get the chance to see her perform in smaller venues like she has in the past to get a more of a personal experience of her sounds. I won't miss the next chance. With hits like Sweet about me, Symmetry, Left with someone else, Sweeter in history, Save the lies, Vicious love, Highway, Don't look back, Not sorry, The sting, Parallel universe, and more.
Along with her fans were eagerly anticipating on a return with music which exceeds her rivals to take her back to the Guilds awards and farther Like an artist you cannot rush a masterpiece. So this shout out goes out to the beautiful Gabriella Cilmi along with her accomplishments that she has made in the music industry thus far.
Thank You.
In an unsettling way, it’s fitting that the root of Gabriella Cilmi’s unmistakeable voice comes from a back problem known as excessive lordosis. The 22 year old Australian sings with such a tangible, unrestrained presence that it’s almost like the act itself physically hurts, and if that was the case then her pain would undeniably be this packed St Pancras Old Church’s gain. Hunched over until nearly bent double she captivates us completely with songs from her new record The Sting, an album inspired by breaking up with her label, management and boyfriend at the same time. Her intense performance sees her fall to her knees during the hypnotic I Am Just A Girl and gripping her mic stand for dear life during a rollicking strut through Symmetry. If there is an issue it’s that this deeply passionate performance feels a little misplaced when applied to previous singles like Sweet About Me and On A Mission, which are great pop songs in their own right but feel slightly flimsy when lined up against songs from The Sting, where the painfully heavy times that inspired it deserve a performance of a matching heaviness. It’s nit-pick though, for sure, Cilmi and her backing band are on fine form here, and if sets and songs as powerful as these become the norm then we should expect to see a lot more of this rare talent in the near future.
