Love And Rockets' performance at Lollapalooza was truly incredible in every sense of the word. It was what live music performances, especially ones at festivals, should truly be about: sharing one's love for a genre and one's passion for music with an audience. Their introduction alone pumped the crowd up, showing that Love And Rockets certainly has a fan base for their rocking and ripping alternative rock.
Opening with the ever-popular "Ball of Confusion" was an excellent choice to rile the crowd up even more, as they said "It's nice to be here" before drummer Kevin Haskins took off into a rocking drum beat. Clad in punk-ish black leather, with studs, sunglasses, wild hair, and hats, Love And Rockets exuded their trademark style.
For musicians who have been around since the mid-80s, their live act certainly doesn't feel dated or aged. They are just as youthful and skilled as ever, and, if anything, their performance has matured since earlier acts. In "Ball of Confusion," their rapid song speak is just as technically strong as ever as they play on the mostly bare festival stage, clustered with their instruments, wires, and cables. By the time they'd finished their opener, the crowd was bursting with excitement for the remainder of the performance to come, cheering wildly from the audience.
