Turboweekend are stars of a new genre, synth-rock, which is becoming increasingly popular across Scandinavia. These boys have been making music together since 2006 and have been quietly, confidently honing their sound and are now enjoying the rewards. In 2012 they reached number one in the native Denmark for their third LP, 'Fault Lines' and picking up the award for the best live act at the Danish Music Awards.
If you are lucky enough to have seen the trio perform live, you'll know why they were awarded this accolade. An impressive lighting display with an illuminated 'Turboweekend' helps set the tones for the moody electro tinged rock that they are about to deliver to bating crowds as the band swagger onstage. Their set at this year's Northside Festival was a brilliant showcase of what they can do, the addition of synth production helps to keep the mood ethereal throughout whilst the band can focus on impressive instrumental and high energy melodies.
The dramatic 'On My Side' goes down particularly well with crowds jumping in unison as the band beam onstage. The more they stretch out their instrumentals, the more the audience clap them on and the atmosphere of this intense live show never really falls away, there is very little set filler and when fan favourites 'Trouble Is' and 'Not A DJ' begin the already frenzied crowds help the band bring the show to a close with a deafening recreation of these songs.
Had a super fantastic evening as we always have with Turboweekend. Silas' voice is amazing as always and even though they have made them 'softer' you could still feel the energy and just wanted to jump up and dance. You could clearly see that Silas had to contain himself not just jumping round like he normally would. The whole band was just great and fully enjoyed the strings because it gave just a wee bit extra to the songs .
