Trixie Whitley is a real talent. Powerful, swooning, crooning, her voice is astounding, full of depth of tone that makes her an incredible performer. At the White Rabbit Cabaret in Indianapolis, her dynamic set captivated the audience moving from her signature bluesy, electronic sound to moments of quietness, with just her sat at the piano. It was her voice that stole the show, filling the room with such a massive and full sound that was impossible not to be totally captivated by the belgian multi-instrumentalist. Her voice is at times delicate and soulful, then it is sultry and raunchy, combined with real instrumental talent. "Never Enough" was a highlight, oozing in a bluesy swagger, with a romping energy that pulsated throughout the track. "Pieces" was a jazzy, soul-drenched track that showcased her vocal range, straining and cracking in moments of passion and heightened emotion. "A Thousand Thieves" had a rousing chorus that evoked a sense of determination that is evident in Whitley's music. A determination to achieve success on her own terms, through playing music that she would want to listen to and this is definitely something she seems to have achieved. She is a captivating performer, holding the audience ransom to an emotional set that forces introspection, as well as complete awe at her talents.
At first I was not sure if I was on the wrong date or at the wrong venue, with such few people waiting outside the Orangehouse in Munich. It turned out that these were the lucky few - probably not more than 3 or four dozen - to see Trixie Whitley on that evening. Though playing to such a small crowd Trixie delivered an energetic 90 minutes set and was rewarded for this professionalism and dedication by an audience that became more and more enthusiastic about the performance. Together with her wonderful drummer (who occasionally also played keys, bass or guitar) she performed the greater part of her new Album 'Lacuna' and a careful selection of older songs. Once again - and even more than last time - I was struck by the rich colours of her very special style of playing guitar. Her voice seemed stronger, more soulful than I remembered it, especially when she sang the ballads
Less than impressed- did not meet my expectations.
Saw her years ago with Black Dub on divisadero and the show was epic. I have been waiting for her return, very disappointing her band didn't have it nor did she. So wanted to love this show and her just didn't work for me
We have seen Trixie in Breda at the mezz.
OWW! Awfully good performance! Not even 1 boring second! Head over heels! What a talent! One great woman and a splendid band! I hope they will keep up the good work and keep showing us what Rock&Roll stands for!
