When your parents are John Lennon and Yoko Ono and Elton John is your Godfather, there is going to be a certain amount of musical expectation surrounding you. With his current act ‘The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger’, a partnership with Charlotte Kemp Muhl, Sean Lennon is doing a good job of delivering on his promise.
Their look is a throwback, with the strong front of stage of presence of Charlotte and Sean instantly engaging an audience. When their looks are combined with the woozy guitars and tight, 3-part harmonies its hard not to feel the energy of a different area coming at you. Whilst it’s going to be impossible to sidestep Beatles comparisons, The GOASTT’s own personal brand of neo-psychedelia also sees comparisons with more contemporary acts such as Tame Impala or The Flaming Lips.
The GOASST are currently doing a good job of spreading their hazy style amongst modern audiences by opening for the likes of Beck. One thing for sure is that when they’ve seen them live, audiences won’t be saying ‘I just saw John Lennon’s son’, they will be saying ‘I just saw Sean Lennon’.
