Biography
holed up in various home studios throughout London and Manchester UK alongside a rotating extended crew of creatives and friends. They turned off the outside world, raised a middle finger to convention, and even went so far as to completely burn down what they previously built as multiplatinum pop sensation Rixton in favor of a bold, ballsy, and brazen beginning.
Given this level of integrity, the fans responded to the group’s quiet rise, subverting pop with organic instrumentation, cheeky and clever confessions, and a wide-eyed grin. That’s how the group’s one-off lead single “mama’s house” impressively put up over 2 million cumulative streams out of the gate in a few months. Along the way, they retreated to “a castle in the middle of nowhere in the UK” to record the six tracks comprising woah, maintaining an unpredictable spirit.
As they worked, a cult audience rallied around push baby, and they rallied back. The band engaged fans to choose the next single and livestream with them during video shoots.
woah extends an invitation to join in this thing of theirs.
“This is YOUR band,” concludes Roche. “Everyone is a part of the process and experience. You can put out art regardless of who you are and what resources you have. We want to prove that, and we want you to join us.”
Live reviews
Wow. Just wow. They were absolutely incredible and such an amazing live act. The crowd in the intimate venue - although small - went absolutely wild for them; the band themselves saying Glasgow was probably the loudest city in the tour so far! They kept us thoroughly entertained with their brilliant songs, outstanding vocals and hilarious banter as they mucked about on stage and had a laugh, having bottle of beer each just being the normal, genuine, down-to-earth, funny guys that they are. The highlight for me was at the end - they saved their debut single til last, 'Me And My Broken Heart', and the crowd went crazy as we all sang along to what has to be one of my favourite songs ever. But at the very end Jake came right into the crown and since I got a good spot about 4 rows in I managed to get on the action as we all grabbed at him (I basically hugged him from behind - a moment I will never forget) and he was just loving it. The whole night the atmosphere was electric and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. GO RIXTON!!!!!!
No matter what you think about pop music or boybands for that matter, you have to give Manchester group Rixton some credit for making the music they want to and playing all their own instruments. Lead singer Jake Roche could be described as destined to be musical having been born to successful boyband member Shane Ritchie and girl group member Coleen Nolan.
Their lead single 'Me And My Broken Heart' was a runaway success in both the UK and the States and although the band were suddenly elevated to huge stages, each member copes with the transition incredibly well. They charge out onto stage and meet their fans warmly as they each do a lap of the stage before taking to their instruments to rip into 'Hotel Ceiling'. There is no debut album as of yet so a number of tracks tonight feel like sneak previews, some of which already go down a storm with the audience. They erupt in excitement for the real crowd pleaser of the evening 'Me and My Broken Heart' which is sang back in force and leaves the boys with huge smiles and happy hearts.
8th August 2015 was my first time seeing rixton. But definitely not my last! They were full of energy and that rubbed off onto the audience. All songs were incredible live and made me fall in love with rixton a little bit more!! They interacted with the audience giving them a night to remember. Throughout the whole gig we were dancing the night away. The support acts were tremendous and got the crowd ready for rixton! 10/10 Rixton are definitely worth seeing live! And a night I'll remember for the rest of my life! xxxx
The Rixton concert was the best concert I have ever gone to! In fact all of their concerts that I have gone to have been great and I have been their fan for quite a long while now. It was so real and I could feel that the boys were giving all they had during their performance. They really connected with the audience to made the performance fun, professional And extremely enjoyable. Anytime they are performing near me I will be there! Simply amazing. I love Rixton <3
