RTJ has amazing stage presence and know how to work a crowd and get everyone hyped for an amazing show.
Bits between songs were both comical and thought provoking - pretty much what you’d expect from a RTJ concert. It made for a brilliantly personal show - it felt as if I got to know the real El-P and Killer Mike much better.
The quality of the performance itself was amazing and it was nice to see that they brought BOOTS and Danny Brown our for their features on 2100 and Hey Kids (both of which were great).
Also nice that they turned the base up for their final song: ‘A Christmas F**king Miracle’.
Overall a 10/10 night.
This was an amazing show, dj qbert was there and I had no idea he was going to be there and he absolutely killed it, his scratching was virtuosic, the way he deftly switched up beats endlessly impressive and the beats on display positively nasty. Flatbush Zombies came on next and were very impressive, their vocal performances were full of energy and they sounded great. Zombie Juice's crazy dynamic rumble of a voice had so much range and his companions, meechy darko and Erick arc Elliot were tight. The crowd was feeling it and started moshing. Then run the Jewels came on and my review of them is unneeded as I assume you all know that they are amazing seasoned hip hop performers. Killer Mike and El-P's vocals were amazing and El-P's beats were played and occasionally scratched by a DJ, with beats as sublime as his he doesn't really need to noodle with them onstage. Both FBZ and RTJ were completely unplagued by the audio muddiness that seems to prevale most hip hop concerts, these crews sound completely clear and every lyric is audible, which is something that is commendable and a testament to their skills as emcees.
Great live show, constant energy, extreme positivity coming from Mike & El. The songs are fantastic anthems for a crowd to get behind, with incredible lyricism that is very fast yet understandable at a live show. I don't know how they write, deliver AND memorize all those verses.
The show was so good I bought another ticket to see them 2 nights later.
