‘Save, Save grace for leap day, no room for tears, outside this door. Go, Please daddy I’ll show, My Friday night bruises, I will fight this war’…were the lyrics that Blaudzun opened his set with. The poignant song that opened the show had everyone singing along right away, as his full band supported him, singing out ‘when the heat is on’ in the chorus. Every single person on stage was totally dedicated to the set from start to finish, and it was contagious, everyone in the audience was dancing along, and loving the whole show.
As well as being an incredibly talented songwriter and singer, Blaudzun is a great guitarist, and throughout the set, he played a couple of guitar solos which went down really well. He played Promises Of No Man’s Land in its entirety, which was incredibly special, as he said we were one of the first audiences to hear it live since its release. He chose sections of his songs to teach us in the audience, and we sang them along with his backing vocalists whilst he harmonized over the top, which was incredible. The show was only about 90 minutes long, and I would’ve loved to hear more from him, but everything performed was spot on, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
