Biography
Despite only being in his teens, Oliver Heldens was quick to find success with his brand of deep house, initially releasing tracks on the label, Spinnin' Records, having started in 2013. His first releases, "Stinger," "Thumper" (a collaboration with DJ Jacob van Hage) and "Panther" achieved a warm reception although remained relatively unknown.
Superstar DJ, Tiesto, took notice of Helden and signed him to his label, Musical Freedom, before releasing his debut single on the imprint, "Gecko" in December 2013. Gaining significant hype, the track was praised by a number of media outlets and DJs, most notably Pete Tong, who named the track his 'Essential New Tune' on his BBC Radio 1 show. Adapting the single to feature British vocalist Becky Hill, "Gecko (Overdrive)" went on to reach the top of the UK charts.
Helden then turned his attention to his masterful remix of label mate, Martin Garrix's hit, "Animals," managing to completely re-imagine the track whilst maintaining the original memorable melody. The remix gained critical praise, helping to raise Helden's profile. Helden next found success with his remix of Robin Thicke's "Feel Good," before then making a number of appearances at European festivals that Summer, playing big sets at Tomorrowland and Creamfields.
Live reviews
I usually find watching DJs live little difference from simply hearing the recordings playing, but from the moment Oliver Heldens walked out on stage, I knew that this would be a different kind of show. After the lights came up, he ran on stage with his arms on stage with his headphones in his hand, and span around center stage to a huge applause before making his way to the DJ booth.
He opened with my favorite of his tracks, Gecko, which originally got him recognised by Tiesto back in 2012, who then signed Heldens to his label. As well as performing some exciting dances to keep the audience engaged whilst he was playing, there were projections on the two giant screens behind him showing how he was spinning the decks, using his kaoss pad, and twisting all of the buttons to create an awesome sound. Actually being able to see what he was doing and hearing it correlate to the sounds was awesome.
He played a great selection of remixes and original tracks, and got everyone singing along with his samples on his tracks. He was enthusiastic from start to finish and a real crowd pleaser.
I saw Oliver Heldens live perform at the Global Dance festival in Morrison, CO last July 20th Sunday. His rhythmic melodic beats makes me wanna move and get up from the seats... He knows how to put together a great set of music that contains an element of surprise and great dance beats that goes against the monotony of bass music that loses its authenticity fast. His music along with that of Madeon has been epic at the Global dance summer festival.... You will not be disappointed as he was rated #1 DJ in the UK not too long ago.
Lame, they overbooked. Couldn't go onto the dancefloor and only on the balcony. He already canceled once and then of course they want more Money so they over packed the place. I was really excited, but now I'll never go back to the fox Pomona theater or anything thrown by these Money hungry lame prompters. Totally not worth the wait, so dispointed to what the scene has become
Oliver Heldens is just amazing!! After just seeing him at Sun Soaked Miami and Ultra the week before, i was still so excited to see him at a smaller venue. He just kills like it like always. So much energy and great interaction with the crowd. Hope see him again at Sun Soaked in LBC!

Loved the progressive house music from Oliver Heldens. Good vibes all around at Toybox nightclub. He does a great job in bring up to crowd to a whole new level in terms of experience. Never thought I'd appreciate progressive house as much after I saw his performance.

Loved the show, Oliver even came into the crowd after the show and took pictures and signed autographs, was pretty cool. Only thing is I wish he had more lights for his shows. Show was still bad ass tho
