There is no denying the prowess of entertainer, Meryl Streep who has been entertaining the world with her raw talent for decades on end. She walks boldly onto the centre stage spot, giving the musical director the secret signal to start. Not a single note has been played yet and the audience haven’t stopped clapping. Eventually, it declines for the glissando on the piano into Abba’s hit single, “Dancing Queen”, tonight Streep is to perform a variety of songs from the Mamma Mia! Movie. This movie of course became the highest grossing musical of all time in terms of worldwide gross. It is also the sixth highest grossing film of all time at the UK box office behind Skyfall, Avatar, Titanic, Toy Story 3 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. The manner in which Streep sings this classics from Swedish super group ABBA is as though she penned all of the songs on her own a great example would be the start of “The Winner Takes it All”, which of course starts and the audience applaud, nearly drowning out her vocals, but eventually, they listen. The high notes at the end of the chorus are sang with conviction and executed perfectly as though Streep didn’t have to try.
A heart warming performance indeed.
