Skank are a Brazilian band who have been together for over twenty years now, honing their craft as an alternative rock band fusing their style with that of ska, reggae and even traditional Brazilian music. The vibe as this gig this evening is like that of a carnival with everyone wearing colourful clothes, with huge smiles on their face showcasing their best dance moves. Skank open with “E Uma Partida de Futebol” the happy sounding track, that kicks off this party in great style.
I immediately love that they look like they’re having the best time performing their music to this audience who are absolutely packed out and are like sardines in how tight the audience is right now.
There are some real highlights were the audience participation is a 12/10 for their enthusiasm, maybe it’s just easier to sing in Portuguese and there is just some natural music behind the language when they talk! “Reposta” and “Ali” are some huge mid set highlights where the audience are probably louder than this huge P.A system. They finish on “E Proibio Fumar” which is a worthy encore and a fantastic display of passion from the audience and band.
