Review of the E.P. 'Bankrupt the republic' release show on june 8th, 2024 at Azijnfabriek in Roemond (Netherlands)

De nieuwe drie-track EP ‘Bankrupt the Republic’ wordt vandaag voorgesteld in deze thuiswedstrijd. Voor een band uit de buurt is Velozza helaas niet al te vaak op lokale podia te bekennen. Hierdoor heeft de enorme groei van het viertal zich voornamelijk op andere plekken voltrokken. Maar wat een absoluut ongekende klasse. Muzikaal zo strak, energetisch zo compleet over de top en daarbij ongeëvenaard wat publieksinteractie betreft. Waar de eerste twee bands veel meer op de hoogtijdagen van het genre in de jaren 80 leunen, is Velozza wel degelijk een groep van deze tijd. De afwisseling, de melodieën, de sfeer; het klopt tot op de hedendaagse millimeter. Daarnaast straalt het plezier er vanaf, met confettikanon, strandballen en omgevallen bierflesjes. Er wordt door het kwartet niet vergeten boven alles een degelijke set neer te zetten. Onder andere hun kakelverse EP wordt integraal gespeeld, inclusief Exodus cover ‘War Is My Sheperd’. De groove van hun Californische helden hebben ze goed begrepen en het is ook de groove, eigengemaakt in hun eigen tracks, die zowat de hele vloer laat opspringen. De gympen zijn al lang niet wit meer, de oren piepen en we zijn een paar cd’s en intense herinneringen rijker. Dit is thrash; zou koning Leonidas zeggen!

The new three-track EP ‘Bankrupt the Republic’ will be presented today during this home game. For a band from the neighbourhood, Velozza unfortunately does not perform all that often on local stages. As a result, the enormous growth of the foursome has mainly taken place in other places. But what an absolutely unprecedented class. Musically so tight, energetically so completely over the top and also unparalleled in terms of audience interaction. Where the first two bands lean much more on the heyday of the genre in the 80s, Velozza is definitely a group of this time. The variety, the melodies, the atmosphere; it is all spot on. In addition, the fun radiates from it, with confetti cannon, beach balls and overturned beer bottles. Above all, the quartet does not forget to put down a solid set. Among other things, their brand new EP is played in its entirety, including Exodus cover ‘War Is My Shepherd’. They have understood the groove of their Californian heroes well and it is also the groove, made their own in their own tracks, that makes almost the entire floor jump. The sneakers are no longer white, the ears are ringing and we are a few CDs and intense memories richer. This is thrash; as King Leonidas would say!
