I'm a big fan of Elliott both in Dinosaur and and his own trio and have seen both many times. This show (I missed the first half due to hideous traffic) was delightful being in the lovely intimate surrounds of Kansas Smitty's only having room for 44 or so in the audience. The second half opened with two of the most cool and laid back pieces ever and then a beautiful slow one with a distinctive blues feel. Elliott mostly played acoustic piano and his enjoyment of playing was clear for all to see. I missed his electro escapades of previous sets but what I heard tonight blew me away and was an utter delight. Tom McCready was excellent on d/bass and is developing a mature style and loads of great techniques. Corrie Dick on drums and percussion was reliable and skillful as ever, being sensitive and aware of the rest of the trio. A great team and a great night.
