Die Happy is a German-based alternative rock band from Ulm. The group was founded in 1993 by Czech singer Marta Jandová and Thorsten Mewes. Even though the band is based in Germany, their songs are written and performed almost exclusively in English which has meant they have gained international interest throughout their long career. Often receiving chart success in their native Germany, they have gained a reputation across the rest of Europe for their intense live show and huge guitar led sound.
With over ten albums in their discography since the early 90's, it's a tough job to decide what to perform but the band always seem to choose well. Lead singer Marta Jandová is a fantastic front woman, often acting like a darker more twisted version of Hayley Williams whipping the crowd into frenzy before the opening bars of cult favourites such as 'Big Boy'. The new material from the new release 'Ever Love' is going down well with the audiences, particularly the anthemic single 'I Could Die Happy' which evokes singalong chorus and huge applause.
It's earliest single 'Supersonic Speed Jam' that gains the biggest reaction of the evening though, huge riffs and a pounding drum beat as Marta skips around the stage like a woman possessed and the crowd jump along below as the band just become more and more intense. A great live show with a strong setlist, an energetic front woman and a massive sound.
