Since their debut in 2001, GRAMMY®-nominated, American Music Award and multiple Dove Award winners MercyMe have sold more than 8.5 million units in CD, single and DVD sales, garnered 26 No. 1 multi-format Christian radio singles and four consecutive mainstream radio hits with “I Can Only Imagine,” (No. 4 AC/Top 25 on Top 40/Hot AC), “Here With Me” (No. 4 AC), “Homesick” (Top 10 AC), and “So Long Self.”
Their radio success has continued with their recent single “Greater,” which held the No. 1 spot at Christian radio for 16 weeks. MercyMe made history in 2014 as “I Can Only Imagine” surpassed 2 million digital downloads, making it the first song in Christian music to go platinum and double-platinum in the digital domain. In 2009, Billboard named MercyMe's "Word Of God Speak" the No. 1 Song of The Decade and the group the No. 1 Artist of the Decade in both the Christian Songs and Christian AC Songs categories, recognizing them as one of the industry's most notable talents. MercyMe has sold out venues across the nation, including Radio City Music Hall, and has appeared on The Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CNN, Fox New Channel's Fox & Friends, ABC News, CBS This Morning and in the pages of Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times, USA Today, Billboard and more. Their eighth studio album, Welcome To The New, garnered Billboard Music Award nominations in all three Christian categories and two GRAMMY® nods.
Jeremy Camp grew up surrounded by music. His father, Tom, was the pastor at Harvest Chapel, and taught him how to play guitar. After completing high school, Camp attended an Assemblies of God college in Southern California for two years and later earned an associate of theology degree from Calvary Chapel Bible College. He later played all over Southern California.
His career has been extremely successful to date, having scored 32 No.1 hits on Christian Radio across all formats. His album “Beyond Measure” contributed six back-to-back No. 1 hits, including his track “Let It Fade” which maintained the No. 1 spot for 10 weeks on AC Radio.
Camp landed top spots for “Take You Back” and “Lay Down My Pride”. He also was voted the Best Male Artists in the 2005 Reader’s Choice Music Awards in the Christianity Today Magazine. It was in 2005 that he won the ASCAP Songwriter of the Year and the Dove Award for Male Vocalist of the Year for the second consecutive year. His song “Open Up You Eyes” was featured on the original soundtrack of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
In 2007, the first single, “Tonight” from the album “Beyond Measure” was released in mid-August, and eventually made it to No. 1 on the Christian contemporary hit radio. “Give Me Jesus”, the third single released from the album made it into the top 5 on inspirational radio. It was this year that he released a two disc CD and DVD for his concert tour “Live Unplugged” recorded in Franklin, Tennessee.
His best selling album in his career so far has been “We Cry Out: The Worship Project” which was released on August 24th 2010. It made it to number 15 in the US charts and number 1 in the Christian charts.
MercyMe is a Christian rock band. Most people are turned off when they hear Christian for a number of reasons. Most I think believe the music will sound "churchy", but nothing could be further from the truth. The music is comparable to what is played on mainstream radio minus all the overt sexual innuendos and excessive expletives. I Can Only Imagine carries a beautiful message of hope and grace which is extended universally and unconditionally. I really enjoyed seeing this performed live. It overwhelmed me with emotion, and I wasn't the only. I observed a few people shedding tears. It really had an emotional impact. That was quite a remarkable thing to witness.
MercyMe's lead vocalist somewhat reminds me of the lead vocalist from the country group Rascal Flatts. I am not sure why though. I guess because both men sing from the heart with real and true emotion. Nothing is put on for show, it's authentic and greatly appreciated. The venue in which I saw this particular group was a mega church. While there were a lot of people it still felt rather intimate overall. I loved it. I would recommend seeing MercyMe live if presented with that chance to do so.
Seeing Jeremy Camp two years ago at a local festival in Gilford NH at Soulfest was the best experience I had.
He is very passionate about his music and is a Christian singer. He plays at a lot of Christian music festivals throughout the year. One of his songs Overcome helps people to overcome a tragedy in their life whatever it might be. Jeremy Camp has released eleven albums. Now onto what soulfest is - soulfest used to be a four day Christian music festival, but this year has been moved to three days (I will still be there - that won't stop me!) It is an outdoor festival at gunstock mountain in Gilford NH at which over 100 Christian artists perform songs, Jeremy Camp two years ago being one of them. My favorite songs of his are Jesus Saves, Overcome and There will be a day, all of which he performed. There is so much to say about someone who is so passionate about their love for God and shows it every night. They are on fire, they have a light about them, and a joy about them. Which is something I hope to do one day.
