While many people remember the band Semisonic, due to their somewhat short career and hit production, not many had the chance to see this great band live.
Luckily, back in 2001, I had the chance to see them do a short set in an outdoor festival called PinkPop. It was a fairly hot day, and I had come to see several bands on the bill that day. We were sitting and waiting for the next band to take the stage, not knowing that we were about to see Semisonic put on an amazing energetic show.
As they took the stage people slowly stood up, making there way closer to the stage and sort of bobbing their heads. The band took the energy they were getting from the crowd and ran with it, playing a killer set. After two or three songs, I had made my way close to the stage because I knew that at any moment they were going to play “Closing time”.
When Dan Wilson announced it was their final song, I couldn’t contain myself. They started playing and everyone remembered every word. As the song hit its melodic end, I looked around. The crowd had all become like one for a moment some people holding each other and some just holding back tears. It was a very powerful concert.
