I saw North Mississippi Allstars perform at the Independent in San Francisco, California on February 9, 2013. The base on Po Black Maddie was perfect. It was one of the best performances of this song I've heard or seen. The stage was perfect. The colors and the scenes shown on the screen really made the night perfect. The guitarist is especially cute. I love his hair and glasses. He's also got great skill with the guitar and a nice voice to go with it.
Skinny Woman was done well too. It was a nice more mellow follow up to Po Black Maddie and the guitarist got to really show off his skills on that one. Going to one of their shows is a great way to unwind at the end of a hard day. They give a good performance and great music. Good to drink to or dance to if you brought a date. They are also nice guys if you get a chance to talk with them after the show at one of their small laid back gigs or if you get their early to see them set up. I like to try and arrive early while the band is setting up.
Amy Helm's shows get better and better. Connor Kennedy opened with an acoustic set, but then replaced Amy's regular, brilliant guitarist Daniel Littleton, and was nothing but spectacular! Anne Harris, a talented and exciting violinist, was a guest on several numbers. Amy is as real and humble as she is talented. The sound was perfect at SPACE, and the instruments and voices were perfectly mixed. A joyous and rousing sold-out show to an appreciative audience.
