Going to DJ sets is something that I do reasonably regularly, I much prefer dancing in a club to a live DJ rather than all pre-recorded tracks. Sometimes it’s disappointing to see that the DJs don’t actually play much of their set live, but seeing Huxley was wonderful, he had his massive decks and turn tables in front of him, as well as some electronic instruments that he played solidly from start to finish.
He opened with his track 19 Years, and had everyone dancing along enthusiastically. As an up and coming DJ, he’s had much experience collaborating with Ethyl, so he played a selection of their mixes throughout the night which were awesome. He’s been producing and performing since a young age, and it’s evident in his laid back performance, interacting with the club with ease, putting his hands in the air to encourage dancing, and getting everyone on his side by shouting out for everyone to dance along.
He played a great variation of his original work, alongside with covers and remixes of popular music, which was a great addition to the set, because it got the audience singing along and kept everyone engaged. He played an extended version of his track Bally Who, which was awesome as the build up to the drop got everyone dancing like mad. It was a great gig, and I look forward to hearing more from Huxley soon.
