Taite Music Prize-winning New Zealand songwriter Anthonie Tonnon presents Cinematographer, an immersive audiovisual performance combining live electronic music, cinematic storytelling and visual design. Part film, part disco club set and part francophile performance lecture, the show moves between the Situationist International in 1960s France and Italy, and the mysterious city of Whanganui, New Zealand at the turn of the millennium.
Developed over three years, Cinematographer introduces an entirely new body of music made with longtime producer Jonathan Pearce, with Tonnon performing as singer, DJ, documentarian and lecturer. Swapping guitar for vocoder and transforming two Synthstrom Deluges into honorary turntables, he connects cinema, revolutionary ideas and vast geographical distance through the musical language of turn-of-the-millennium dance culture.
