The Jeff Lorber Fusion provided a great evenings entertainment. I wondered if it might be too mellow for me when I booked the gig but no way. They were on the money from the off and the applause - especially for Lorber's more familiar work was rapturous. Lorber has clearly established a fan base in London
The band were impressive across the board. You first notice the tight bass lines of Jimmy Haslip who is a key member of Yellowjackets. Then you notice the depth and versatility of the drumming by Gary Novak. Then you can enjoy the excellent sax and keyboards flying over the rhythms
Most of the music, delivered over two sets, came from the last two albums Hacienda and Step It Up. My favourite number, however, was one from their debut self-titled album in 1977 which just shows how timeless their music is
The venue was convivial too if the seats were somewhat uncomfortable. Decent sound system too
