Raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Ryan Hemsworth is a DJ/Producer, blending hip hop production with an indie pop sound, who has also lent his talents to artists such as Lana Del Rey, Shady Blaze and Farrar.
Growing up with two older brothers, Hemsworth gained his initial musical education through them, although in his later teen years, he delved deep into the internet to find new and exciting music. Hemsworth then went on to start DJing at parties during his freshman year at college, playing sets that focused on indie-electro, such as by the likes of Passion Pit and Empire of the Sun.
Hemsworth began producing for rappers in 2011, first creating beats for Shady Blaze, a Bay Area, California, US rapper of the Main Attrakionz crew, creating the collaborative album "Distorted,"which showed the potential of the young Hemsworth, fusing the raw sound of grime with trap and trip hop. Hemsworth is heavily influenced by fellow contemporary dance producers, such as the likes of Rustie, Hudson Mohawke and DJ Mustard. His relationship with the Main Attrakionz crew continued, becoming a constant engineer and occasional producer on their releases.
Hemsworth has gone on to work with other rappers, including Deniro Farrar and Sole, with his stylistic sound of emotive rap mixed with sensitive R&B and current dance trends, all with a streak of melancholy running through it. His talents garnered the attention of Quadron, Grimes and Lana Del Rey, who hired Hemsworth to create remixes of their songs.
Hemsworth's solo career began to start building in momentum when he released his "Last Words" EP on the Weddit label. A year later his debut full-length, "Guilt Trips," came out on the Last Gang label, featuring appearances from Baths and Lofty305. The album won the 2014 Juno Award for 'Electronic Album of the Year." "Guilt Trips" was followed by Alone For the First Time" in 2014.
