Met Chamber Ensemble

The always-evolving Met Orchestra Chamber Ensemble features musicians from the legendary Met Orchestra in a variety of unique programs. Together, they explore a boundless world of chamber music, adapting to fit the instrumental needs of any piece—from all-time classics to hidden gems and standout works by many of today’s acclaimed composers. This evening’s program is a prime example, featuring uniquely scored 20th-century works by French composers. Hear Messiaen’s singular Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time), a masterpiece written and premiered while the composer was a German prisoner of war. Enjoy Poulenc’s Suite française, based on dances by French Renaissance composer Claude Gervaise. Also experience the varied colors and dreamlike atmosphere of Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp.
