The thrills are almost constant in this “revelatory and remarkable” (The Sunday Times) program of vocal showpieces and bravura arias curated by baritenor extraordinaire Michael Spyres. As heard in selections by essential Baroque composers Handel, Vivaldi, and Rameau—and in overlooked wonders by Galuppi, Sarri, and A. Mazzoni—Spyres seeks out what he calls “the absolute extremes of the human voice,” and he is astonishingly comfortable when he finds them. In the project’s latest world tour, Spyres reunites with the exemplary period ensemble (and Carnegie Hall audience favorite) Il Pomo d’Oro.
