Co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall, before and after nature showcases Lang’s extraordinary gifts as a composer for both chorus and chamber ensemble, which have earned him a Pulitzer Prize, Grammy Award, Musical America’s Composer of the Year, and much more. Each movement has its own unique inspiration, from a culture-spanning depiction of time before the universe to the conflation between seeing a mountain and seeing God. Lang’s concepts are evoked spectacularly through video projections by renowned artist Tal Rosner, adding unique power to the multidimensional performance.
