Ties Mellema (saxophone, electronics)
Guest artist Maila Laidna (piano)
Works by Schmitt, Auerbach and Mellema, weaving together electronics, drum machines, synthesizers, live looping and influences from classical music, minimalism, techno, jazz and beyond.
"Listen, This Is Me" is a personal and genre-crossing solo programme in which classical music, improvisation, minimalism, drum and bass, hip-hop and electronic sound language meet. The saxophone is the narrator here, moving between acoustic and electronic worlds, concert hall and club culture.
At the heart of the programme is electronics as a creative tool: music born from improvisation, layering sounds and responding to them in real time. "Listen, This Is Me" invites you to listen to a world where opposites do not exclude but complement each other.
Ties Mellema is a Dutch saxophonist, composer and improviser who moves deliberately across genre boundaries. After more than two decades as a founding member of Amstel Quartet, he launched crossover ensemble PEAX in 2019, active until 2025. A serious illness led him in 2015 to explore electronic music making, and since then electronics have become an inseparable part of his artistic voice. Mellema is a recipient of the Netherlands Music Prize.
