Georg Phillip Telemann, whose famous instrumental work inspired our name “Tafelmusik”
was the most revered German composer in his own lifetime. A multi-instrumentalist and superstar at the centre of musical life in the city of Hamburg, he was a people’s composer, creating music for the city’s churches, cafés, banquet houses - even a concert hall at the town jail. In music, narration and projected images, this new program by award-winning creator Alison Mackay will explore Telemann’s fascinating life in a vibrant city of music and reveal the astonishing variety and beauty of his music.
