Terrific, intimate show. The venue was freezing cold, but Glen and opener Natalia Zuckerman was really good sports about it. (Though I saw Natalia crouched next to a space heater at one point during Glen's set!) They both hung around the bar when they weren't performing, so it was easy to casually converse. When they joined each other's sets for several songs, the additional guitar and vocals provided beautiful depth. Natalia's slide guitar in particular made me hear Glen's songs from a fresh perspective. On this particular evening, Glen played a lot of Toad songs (7 out of 21). He also dusted off some of his fun older stuff, like Greer Zoller and Drive By. All in all, wonderful music and a fun (but cold!) night!
The Glen Phillips show was amazing as always. Thanks to KC Turner for promoting this awesome weekend! Watching him perform in a beer garden was truly special. His performances of "Better Off Here" and "Shorn" will be he most memorable. If you ever have a chance to see his show I highly recommend it.
Excellent show! Glen’s voice sounded better than the height of the Toad era. Good mix of old, new, solo and Toad songs. Further proof that he is one of the most introspective and talented singer-songwriters of this era.
