Since Lacuna Coil formed in 1994, the group has had two name changes, they have formerly been known as "Sleep of Right" and "Ethereal".
Lacuna Coil are highly unique and have their own musical style. The band get their inspiration through the arty components of gothic imagery and music. Their style combines both female and male vocals with slow tempo's and heavy bass lines.
The band were signed by Century Media record in 1998 and went on to release a self-titled EP with them. Later, Lacuna Coil successfully recorded their debut full length album, named, "In a Reverie". However in 2002 the band made a breakthrough with a change of style. They found their feet and released breakthrough album, "Comalies". I first found lacuna coil at Ozzfest in 2004. Lacuna Coil was just one of many great bands that day, but after they finished their short set I just had to see more.
I've seen Lacuna coil play big amphitheaters to small clubs and no matter the venue they come to play. Lacuna Coil brings energy to their shows and in turn the audience gives it back. I've had my nose busted up in a Lacuna Coil mosh pit. I have seen Hatebreed, Lamb of God, Cannibal Corps…etc and that’s never happened.
Most of the shows I have seen that Lacuna Coil has headlined Andrea and Cristina will go through some sort of wardrobe change during the show. Andrea and Cristina will wear some sort of jacket and shed as the show goes on. Depending on the show Lacuna Coil my slow the music down. Andrea and Cristina will sometime sing with just the aid of a guitar, or the band might just use mellow cords and percussion to accompany the vocals.
Lacuna Coil music has changed from album to album. Lacuna Coil first four albums had a Goth sound when Waldemar Sorytchta was the Producer. Lacuna Coil’s sound changed to more of a rock sound when Don Gilmor was the producer on there albums Shallow Life and Dark Adrenalin. Lacuna Coil got Jay Baumgardner to produce their most recent album Broken Crown Halo.
Broken Crown Halo is the heaviest album the Band has put so far. The duel vocals of Andrea and Cristina are not typical beauty and the beast vocals of most metal bands with male and female singers. Andrea and Cristina vocals’ work harmony together for a really cool sound.
If you're considering attending a Lacuna Coil gig, the chances are you have a good idea what they sound like. They replicate this sound very well on stage albeit with added heaviness. They really give out the vibe that they're loving what they're doing and really feed off the crowd's energy. They're humble though and come across as being genuinely appreciative that you're there and having a good time! This was the second time that I've seen them and both times, they've had different uniforms which may sound a bit weird for a metal band but in my opinion, it really works well! For the first band (Devilment), the sound quality left something to be desired. It was better for Motionless In White and pretty much spot on by the time Lacuna Coil hit the stage. The lighting was great, making for some pretty good photos and videos but that's probably more down to the venue than the band. As for the material, all of the popular stuff was played including the great cover of the Depeche Mode song Enjoy The Silence. Overall, I had a fantastic evening and I recommend the band very highly although my admittedly ultra critical friend wasn't quite so enthusiastic.
I'm a Lacuna Coil fan from about 14 years ago and haven't kept up with them much since, but the newest album has caught my attention so I decided to see them when they were in town. Overall I was happy with the show but it wasn't anything to write home about.
The band had good energy and stage presence, but the venue (Social Hall SF) has poor acoustics and limited views of the stage -- for example I could barely see the guitars in the hands of the band members, only their shoulders and heads.
There's a lot of fine (acoustical) detail in some of their songs that gets lost when the venue's acoustics are lacking. I'm sure for someone who's been listening to them non-stop for years wouldn't mind it though (the brain has a weird way of filling in missing sound if you know the song) -- but for someone who was a casual fan it was disappointing.
I'd see them again at a different venue, or maybe when they come back to play more off of the new album.
Amazing!! Lacuna Coil was fantastic!! Their second show of US tour. Cristina and Andrea told the crowd
of their tour bus breaking down traveling from New York and scrambling to rent vehicles to get the band, equipment and crew to the next show!! Reminded me of AC/DC’s “it’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll ! The vocal artistry and brutal power of the music brought you to a higher level of consciousness. In full on stage attire they looked amazing and reminiscent of the 1.19 show. The vocal attack was extraordinary!! Cristina’s voice, pure beauty and hitting every note and crescendo. Andreas brutal vocal passages were amazing and spot on. The band killed it !!! Heavier than Death. A dark symphony of beauty and power!! Everything I expected and more!! A+
First time seeing them was with my wife in 2006. She was 4 months pregnant with our 2nd son. Said son has been lullabied by metal and headbangs to nothing to this day.
I've seen LC 3 more times since and they blow their co-headers out of the water everytime. Trivium? Trivial. All That Remains? Nothing remains.
The best part of this band's evolution is that Andrea actually serves a purpose to the music now instead of just being a vocal cue card for Cristina. Lacuna Coil will always be among my favourite performers in metal and the day they hang it up will be the second-saddest day of my life.
Amazing performance from Lacuna Coil - both voices are still strong some 10 years after I began listening to Unleashed Memories. The only downer was that the support acts had longer sets. Now I'm not sure if Lacuna Coil ran out of time or they planned to have a shorter set, but hopefully on the next tour we'll be able to see/hear more amazing songs on stage.
Amazing show. High energy with lots of hit songs played. I did a Meet and Greet so I got to meet them all and have a few things signed. Ran into Marco the Bass Player in the parking lot after and we talked for quite awhile. He ended up calling Cristina over and she also spent time with a small group of us talking. It was a night to remember!
Very awesome and lovely show. My fisrt metal show ever and I was very impressed. I love lacuna coil, and have now become a fan of epica. The other band insomium was great.i was heeled when I got to meet Cristina Sccabia in person. She is very awesome and down to earth. Over all and EPIC experience. Top 10(1 in my book) hands dowm
An absolute blast. Superb performance and loved how they made a show out of it, the whole Delirium scene and movements, 'sick/deranged' people behavior and overall show. Simply incredible performance. Will definitely go and see them again in the future. Been waiting for this one for years
Just mindblowingly fantastic.3 bands played before Lacuna coil and then they sang more than enough song with outstanding talent, passion and professionnalism.
The show lasted from 19h30 until 23h,3 bands and Lacuna coil, and then came autograph signing, it was great, amazing.
