Sunrise Avenue came together in the 1990s but had very little success under their previous band name, and would receive rejection letters from many labels. After a name change in 2002, and after pitching the “On the Way to Wonderland” idea to a friend, a photocopier machine sales man called Mikko Virtala who would fund the band’s recording and a trip to meet the European labels and managers, the album was released on August 25th 2006. It was later certified Platinum in Germany, and shot up to number 2 in the Finnish chart and number 1 in Greece. Sunrise Avenue’s career was cemented firmly enough to be sustainable. They released the single “Fairytale Gone Bad” which also turned out to be an international hit, reaching the top 5 in 8 countries. This also earned the band a NRJ Music Award for Best Nordic Band, Best Newcomer Band and Best Nordic Album.
They followed the release of the album with an international tour including a spot at Rock AM Ring music festival in Germany, before re-entering the studio to work on what would be entitled “Popgasm”. They lead the release of the album with the single “The Whole Story” which made it to number 14 in the Finnish Singles Chart. The album was later released on May 6th 2009, and made it to number 5 on the Finnish charts, and number 7 in Switzerland.
The next hit single that the band released was called “Hollywood Hills” which achieved similar success to “Fairytale Gone Bad” making it to the top 10 of 7 countries, it was the first single from the album “Out of Style” which went to number 2 in their home country and the top ten of Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
They released “Unholy Ground” in 2013 which like it’s predecessor, made the top 10 of four countries. In 2014, the band released a Greatest Hits Compilation.

The location Loreley was very nice and beautiful. The weather was extremely hot, but unfortunately there was no correct information posted upfront how much drinks people could bring to the concert.
The supportive act Tim Kamrad played for about one hour. The performance and the songs were OK, but without a high recognition factor.
Sunrise Avenue started at 21:00h. They played a good mixture of new and old songs. The show with all the lights and the framed screens in the background were very colourful. I would have preferred bigger screens where one could see more details of the band and the stage as our standing room was not the best.
At 22:30h (when I thought they will start now the bonus songs) it was finished, all of a sudden. The band was still standing on stage with towels around their neck for a minute or two and all at once the background music started!
I said "No, it can't be finished already.", but it was and we saw many disappointed faces.
I really think all the fans would have deserved a bit more commitment, than just the standard-minimum show of 90 minutes.
Some of them were waiting for hours in this incredibly hot sun.
We went to the concert as a group of 4 girls. Would we go again? Two definitely not and two maybe.
It's a pity.
Sunrise Avenue do a near-impossible job of writing sad songs that make you feel better. The best example of this would be the song that brought them their initial glory – “Fairytale Gone Bad”. Eight years later, the audience still goes crazy hearing the first chords of the song, and, what’s more amazing, Samu sings it like he wrote it yesterday. He is a front man to every last bone, freely confessing that he is absolutely and hopelessly in love with his fans. During the concert, he makes sure that they are on the same wave as him and freely makes them a big part of the performance, encouraging them to sing along to the lyrics of their favourite songs. Every now and then, Samu chats to his audience bringing up interesting facts and sources of inspiration for the song he is about to sing. The music that Sunrise Avenue create has a very distinctive style, every new song falls harmoniously into the genre that the band members themselves call “sunny rock”. Lyrics that touch upon painful subjects with unusual lightheartedness, pleasant music and a charming smile from the lead singer and guitarist, the ever-so-charismatic Samu Haber – all this makes for a more than agreeable concert experience.
The show was awesome. The band is live as good as on CD. The visuals were also really beautiful and breathtaking. Their support act Tim Kamrad had really good songs, too though I didn't know them before. The only thing that was a bit annoying was that half of the audience was obsessed with Samu. I mean, it's hardly his fault that he looks so good. Just let him be and enjoy the music.
Hi,
yesterday it was a great show at Zeltfestival Ruhr. The show lasts around 90 minutes including two add-ons. One of the songs was presented in Finish tongue. Great :-)
the guys are unbeliveable.
Hope to have them back in Germany very soon.
Well done guys.

I really enjoyed the concert! Carpark north is a very nice band! It was very hot and I had to go to the paramedic but it was the best event I ever visited! Thank you for the great day and the beautiful show!
