Originally named The Emergency, We Came As Romans formed of high school seniors Sean N. Zelda, Dave Stephens, Jonny Nabors, Mark Myatt and Joshua Moore and played a number of shows in the Detroit, Michigan, U.S. area. Soon after Jonny Nabors and Sean Zelda were replaced by Sean Daley and Larry Clark and the name changed to We Came As Romans.
The band’s first full length album “To Plant A Seed” was released in November 2009 produced alongside Joey Sturgis, the album made a big debut on the Billboard charts reaching No.6 on the Top Heatseekers chart and No. 25 on Top Independent chart. After the release of the album the band left on the ‘Leave It to the Suits’ tour with Of Mice & Men and Broadway, and featured on the ‘Punk Goes Pop Volume Three’ where they covered Justin Timberlake’s “My Love” and placed We Came As Romans on the national tour circuit.
We Came As Roman’s tour scheduling is a thing to behold and the majority of 2010 and 2011 was spent touring around the majority of the U.S. and Canada as well as a couple months in New Zealand and Australia. The band has a proclivity for elaborately titled tour names including: ‘Scream It Like You Mean It Tour’ and ‘We Are Not Meaningless Tour.’
Released in September 2011 We Came As Romans’ third studio album “Understanding What We've Grown to Be” took a darker turn for the band whilst maintaining the bands overall positivity and brotherhood. The album was greeted with excellent reviews and commercially performed better than its predecessor, reaching No. 20 on the Billboard Top 200. Following the release, the band continued their pattern of relentless tour scheduling travelling to UK/Europe, Australia, the Philippines, Japan, Russia, as well as North and South America, alongside the likes of The Used, Megadeth, NOFX, Suicide Silence and The Devil Wears Prada.
The band’s most recent and most popular album “Tracing Back Roots” has solidified the band's position in the pop/punk genre and has seen lead singer Dave Stephens leave the screaming voice behind entering a new era of wider accessibility to their music.

Although there has been a number of lineup changes, the six members currently performing as We Came As Romans are perhaps the strongest outfit thus far. The group has made a huge impression on the scene with their melodic metal core despite having only formed just under ten years ago with a very energetic and interactive live show.
There is no doubt the fans are dedicated, especially in the UK where the group are more of a cult phenomena than a chart success. This does not affect the sheer amount of people packed into Islington's O2 Academy who are ready to sing along in force to the material from all three albums. 'Tracing Back Roots' is perhaps the best known album yet the early fans make themselves heard during a thrashing performance of 'Roads That Don't End and Views That Never Cease'. The whole room is united during the final track 'To Plant A Seed' as the boys really do show off their insane instrumental prowess during a developed version of this early single with extended outro to keep the crowds rocking along.
I bought the Platinum VIP package, so I was able to do so much more than just watch the show. The meet and greet was with WCAR and Memphis May Fire and we ate and interacted with the bands, and that was an experience all in itself. After For Today and Miss May I performed, and both bands put on an excellent show, I got to go into the VIP area and look down from the side of the stage and watch WCAR perform. Their show is always energetic and awesome, but being able to watch it without having people block my view (I'm kind of short) or bang into me was a whole different level of watching them perform. I actually got to watch the crowd and the band and see so many people enjoying the show the way I do, and that energy was something to see. Needless to say, I had one of the best times I've ever had at a show and I don't know how I can top that experience. I'm still smiling thinking about it!
I drove four and a half hours from Canada with some friends to see my favourite band, ERRA. ERRA was awesome, worth the trip in their own, but the rest of the show was everything we could have hoped it would be. Great energy from all the bands and the audience. Excellent music all around. I'd like to point out that the venue, the Intersection is a great place to take in a show, lots of bars, nice restrooms, huge floor and a nice raised stage so everyone can see the bands. It was our first time in Grand Rapids and we have no complaints about the experience at all. Nice job to everyone involved, from the event staff to the bands!
We Came As Romans always puts on a great show. If you're looking for a feel good, upbeat concert WCAR is definitely a show to see.
They sound great live and always engage the audience to make you have a great time. They have been on a few Warped tours in the past, but I suggest seeing a show that they are headlining so you can focus all your attention towards them.
From the beginning to now, even after many band member changes and changing their sound, they have always been a great band.
Go rock out to one of their shows! You won't regret it.
Very good show top to bottom, including local bands! I love the venue most of all. It’s the perfect size and you’re close enough to all the bands to enjoy the action. Oceans Ate Alaska was amazing, We Came brought the house down!
What a phenomenal performance. Crowd was amazing and full of energy. WCAR absolutely slayed it! I may have giving myself CTE from the head banging. Can't wait to see them again when they are in town!
This was my first We Came as Romans show and it was amazing. I will definitely be seeing them again. They are one of my favorite bands and they never let me down.
