Members of the post-rock infused, indie-rock band, Lotus Child, until 2008, Zachary Gray and Tom Dobrzanski formed The Zolas in 2009. Cody Hiles and Parker Bossley subsequently joined to complete the lineup in 2009 and record on The Zolas’ debut full-length “Tic Toc Tic”. Released in November 2009, the record was produced by Howard Redekopp, known for his work with The New Pornographer and Tegan and Sara, and earned a string of positive reviews. The album was largely recorded in Dobrzanski’s D.I.Y. basement studio, and earned regular radio airplay with the tracks “The Great Collapse”, “You’re Too Cool”, “Body Ash”, “No Talking”, and “Marlaina Kamikaze”. This did wonders for the band’s exposure, introducing the Zolas’ playful indie-rock aesthetic to a wide audience and led to a period of regular touring.
In 2011 the Zolas issued a split 7”, “The Zolas/The Liptonians”, which was led by the No. 41 Canadian Alternative Charting single, “Cultured Man”. Following the release, the band began work on their sophomore full-length album, “Ancient Mars”, which was released in October 2012. The record proved anther popular release for the band, aided by the single “Knot In My Heart”, which peaked at No. 26 on the Canadian Alternative Chart. The following year the Zolas issued the EP “Invisible” led by the No. 20 Canadian Alt Chart single of the same name. In anticipation of their third studio album, in 2015 the band released the single “Molotov Girls” on Light Organ Records, marking the Zolas' most electro-infused record to date.

I bought tickets for the Strumbellas' show because the Zolas were the opener, and they did not disappoint. They have an amazing energy, and really know how to engage the crowd. There is something special about the audience in Toronto, too, and they used that to heir full advantage. I also love to watch them mix things up a bit with their songs, and to see how much fun they seem to have on stage. I can't wait to see them again in March!
Amazing! Even better live even with wind and rain that made their hands numb. Such genuine and talented guys. The only complaint I have is that I wish they had a longer time slot in the festival <3 Definitely seeing them again whenever I can.
An incredible band to see live, they were adorable and energetic and so fun,, one of the best concerts of my life !! Opening acts were also amazing,, glad i could find some new music to listen to :-)
As always the Zolas put on an awesome show. The owners were pretty good but for the Zolas it was packed and awesome.
