Dance-punk rockers from Sacramento !!! are in town promoting the release of their 4th (or is it 5th?) album Thr!!!er, released by seminal electronic music label Warp - a return to form after the slightly drab Strange Weather Isn’t It?, or at least by the reckoning of some critics. !!! are quite a unique live experience, in particular thanks to Nic Offer’s stage antics. As the band kick in to the chugging funk of Dear Can, Offer stands there gyrating and thrusting his hips, pointing to the sky and sticking his tongue out. He’s like a sort of modern day Jim Morrison but maybe hornier. He jumps into the crowd and dances among them, putting his arm around people and singing inches from their faces. Later on he takes a stage dive and dances with various audience members, starting little dance parties everywhere. All this proximity really brings the crowd alive, everybody is going for it and it’s hard not to, given Offer’s undeniable, inexhaustible energy. If you haven’t heard them before, or you only checked out an album, I definitely recommend catching a show - they’re an excellent live band and it’s an instant party from the moment they start playing, you won’t be disappointed.
!!! were a force of nature at The Hare & Hounds tonight. With a tight funky band behind them frontman Nic Offer and singer Meah Pace upfront, the show proceeded at an ebullient, high- energy pace and never once let up. The infectious moves coming from the stage had EVERYONE dancing from beginning to end.
Most band use tours to showcase the latest album but tonight the tracks were pulled from the all over their back catalogue and sequenced like a party.
I have seen them before, once in a supporting slot at a stadium gig and once at a festival, but to see them at close quarters in a venue as intimate as this was special and something I'm glad I didn't miss.
I've seen Chk Chk Chk live at least five times now. They have always been stellar live but the show at Oval Space last night was some next level sh*t. Nic Offer shimmied down the bar (while I was buying a selection of refreshing beverages) and later he crowdsurfed and dripped sweat on us. Any pregnancies from attendees resulting in babies in about 40 weeks for now should probably have their paternity verified.
I do believe that Dancing IS the Best Revenge.
Don't miss the chance to see Chk Chk Chk live because there are very few bands these days that achieve that nirvana of funk, punk, disco and house wrapped up in a package of pure FUN.
Seeing this band is a fantastic experience. From the start the music seems to get everyone dancing and jumping around. Nic's dancing is something to behold- sometimes enthoustiastic and crazy and sometimes hilarious, often jumping into the crowd and disappearing somewhere for a while. He whips the crowd into a frenzy and gets everyone into the moment. This is the second time we have seen them and always on the look out for when they next tour. This time at the Leadmill, which is a superb venue and suited the band well. I'd recommend seeing !!! to everyone. Their recorded music isnt always brilliant, but live they are something else.
Still one of the best bands to see live. The Soda Bar is tiny and it was sold out with a long line of people hoping to get tickets outside. The energy the band put out was infectious and everyone in the audience was moving the whole time. The lead singer's interaction with the crowd was awesome and during parts of several songs he made his way through the whole bar and at one point was behind the bar dancing with the servers and then dancing on the bar itself.
This was the 4th time I've seen !!! and I have to say that even this time -- on a Monday night -- Nic Offer kills it with his dynamic performance. He is generous and friendly with the audience and always makes us feel appreciated. Do yourself a favor and see this band each and every time they come to town. I've been to a lot of shows, and this band is among my favorite performers out there.
I had high expectations for the concert of Chk Chk Chk and wasn't disappointed a bit, those guys are meant for the stage (the Lead especially with his most excentric and inspiring dance moves) and I can't wait to see them again and jam at their sweet sound.
Needless to say i had to take a shower after that concert.
Massive gig. A groovy and intense party. I saw them three times live now and liked this time even better than the two before. The extra lady singer provided the icing on a gorgeous cake (I don't know if she is a permanent member of the band now). If you ever get the chance to see !!! somewhere near you: go!
Great show overall. The opening band was also awesome (Sego), but the second band was kinda crap; like a lame version of ManMan.
ChkChkChk was stellar as usual though, love the fantabulous energy they bring every show.
always on my must see list
they always look like they are having a better time than their audience ( & why not?)
ultimate dance off
happy crowd
fun time as ever
if only i had a rewind button..............
