Foxy Shazam is an old fashioned rock band that puts on an incredible live show. They have a modern sound, but the appearance and stage presence of an 80s hair band. I have seen them live on several occasions and their lead singer, Eric Nally, reminds me of Freddie Mercury. He has a tremendous stage presence and his voice is about ten times larger than his body. He is soft-spoken when he speaks between songs, but he turns into a giant when he sings. He can hit high notes that I did not even know existed. When I saw them the stages were not elaborately decorated, but the band relied in colorful costumes, fog, and lights to create an amazing visual performance, to compliment their excellent music.
I last saw them touring with the Darkness last year and they were a perfect pair. Foxy Shazam is glam rock, just Queen, the Strokes, and the Darkness, and fans of over the top rock and roll will love them. They performed a lot of new material but also made sure to go back and revisit some of their older songs, like “Oh, Lord,” “A Dangerous Man,” and, my personal favorite, “Unstoppable.” The crowd was involved during the entire show, dancing, singing, and generally having a blast. Foxy Shazam is sure to deliver a high energy show and any fan of rock and roll will have a blast at one of their shows.
Absolutely insane.
I love their music so I'm biased but if you even kind of enjoy them you MUST see them live. They were truly amazing. Eric Nalley was a constant ball of energy and I've heard the comparison to Freddy Mercury and I'd say that's a fair comparison. Combine that with the rest of the band just doing crazy stuff on top of what he's doing and the show is amazing. At one point the keyboard player, Schuyler Vaughn White, crowd surfed with his keyboard and continued playing. The trumpet player, Alex Nauth, seemed to be injured as he came out with a crutch and then proceeded to have simulated sexual relations with both the trumpet and the crutch at one point in the concert (not at the same time but he was injured so maybe next time). I had heard a roomer afterwards that they had been in an accident prior to the show and that's why Alex was hurt and I heard that Eric was also hurt. So that tells me that the show wasn't even at full power and I was still blown away. Definitely check them out if you get a chance. Worth any drive you might have to make.
