Short but enjoyable set from 40 Watt Sun, longer set from Oceans of Slumber but I found the guitars hard to distinguish and the solos often didn't seem to be audible to me. The sound improved greatly for My Dying Bride though who were wonderful. They played all the songs I wanted to hear like From Darkest Skies, Your River and She is the Dark. Hearing the crowd go wild for The Cry of Mankind, my favourite MDB song, was pretty special.
I do regret buying my ticket through Songkick though. It was only after doing so that I found out other sites were selling specific tickets for downstairs and upstairs; my Songkick ticket didn't say either and I prefer to watch gigs from a balcony if possible. The security at the Islington Assembly Hall were really unhelpful and disinterested so I was prevented from going upstairs which got the gig off to a bad start. It's something to bear in mind if anyone else thinks about buying their tickets via Songkick. I definitely won't be doing that in future.
