Based on Slow Magic’s musical output it seems safe to assume this project emerged around the early 2010‘s. The sound of Slow Magic functions within several trending forms of electronica such as glo-fi, chillwave, and downtempo, but takes on a form of it’s own. It is rooted in the minimal, serene, and gradually evolving structure explored by artists like Tycho, but also exhibits diversions into glitch as heard by Gold Panda and Giraffage.
In regards to the aesthetic tactics Slow Magic employes in his performance, it is difficult not to draw comparisons to the mask donning electro artist SBTRKT. The neon splattered deer mask Slow Magic adorns has become an an immutable part of both his live show and his public image.
Slow Magic has played numerous shows across the world, touring through Asia, Europe, the United States, and New Zealand. This incessantly busy artist has also appeared at countless nightclubs such as Berlin’s Naherholung Sternchen, playing alongside acts like Giraffage and Mister Lies.
Slow Magic’s 1st studio album “Triangle” was released in 2012 through LabensStrasse Records. The album’s title is in fact expressed with the shape of a triangle (possibly a reference to the Boredoms’ album “Vision Creation Newsun”. In support of this release Slow Magic embarked on a tour with Gold Panda and Xxyyxx. A year later he provided remixes for Gold Panda alongside the spanish retro-dance band Delorean.
In 2014 Slow Magic issued another release through LebensStrasse, a split single with Sun Glitters. His sophomore album “How to Run Away” also appeared on the shelves that rear. This album marked Slow Magic’s 1st release through Sony’s distributor Downtown.

Really disappointed in the show. I've been a fan since 2014's How to Run Away and really, really wanted this to be good. Unfortunately it turned out to be mostly show and little substance.
On the good side: while masks in electronic music are overdone, this was visually cool. Also appreciated was the "take the drum into the audience" bit which leads to a fun, intimate interaction that is rarely seen with most acts. The visuals were also nice, if unoriginal.
The negatives however outweighed these perks. Slow Magic is not much of a musician in the live sense - "pushing play" with very little live instrumentation or loop building. This was very apparent about halfway through the show when a technical error with the mask caused the artist to leave the stage, with the music still going - the curtain was drawn on Oz. I also had my doubts as to whether his use of the MPC was real, or just for show. Mostly, it was just him banging on some drums with music playing in the background.
Sigh. Oh well.
After learning about Slow Magic recently after discovering ODESZA and missing him at Seattle's 2014 Capitol Hill Block Party, I was excited to have a second chance to see him at my home town in Vancouver; he didn't disappoint! Slow Magic is one of those rare artists that creates an on-stage persona and sticks with it. His commitment to the tribal masked, 'imaginary friend' theme and the element of power introduced to his live music via a pair of massive drums makes his concert-going experience a memorable one. Audience interaction is unprecedented: his humility and appreciation for his fans is evident from the multiple visits he makes to the crowded floor with his drums. Slow Magic's live performance is dynamic and intimate. Get tickets to see him now before he blows up!
Saw Slow Magic at Capital Hill Block party a while back and had been listening to him for about 4 years or so. His Capital Hill performance got my boyfriend so hyped he became an instant fan. We got to be right up in the very front with him directly upfront and it was one of the best live shows I have ever seen. We wanted to see him again due to how amazing he was last time. The ticket said he would be on at 9:30, we were there til 11:15 still waiting for him and had to leave. There were dj's before him, that were good for an hour but were not independent artists themselves. Felt Severely disappointing. We even bought merch before the show and left feeling gypped. As a fan, I felt really bummed about this experience and feel that my love for Slow Magic has been tainted.
Slow Magic will and always be a show I wouldn't miss for anything. I have watched him live for about 3 times, and they are all such amazing experiences. There's really just something in the way he performs--so energising and invigorating, that you can't help but to jump with him and indulge in the music.
Definitely recommend everyone to catch him live, even if you're not the sort of person who is into this music!
Slow Magic is someone that I will ALWAYS go to see if he's coming anywhere nearby. His live show is not only amazing, but very uplifting. Watching him jump up and down and play the drums very dramatically puts a smile on my face during the entire show. He reminds me of a little rabbit. I definitely recommend his show to anyone, even if they're not into his music. The live show is an experience.
An absolute recommend. Slow Magic's sound and style were quite new to me in an invigorating and amazing way. "This is our tribal call," I thought to myself – the banging drums, dark and crowded room, and lit-up mask were the ceremonial dance of our modern day. Slow Magic made me feel connected to my fellow man in a way I never have before. Step aside Odeza; this is the show you want to see.
Slow Magic transcends the normal conventions of identity-based music.
Without a known physical identity, Slow Magic seems an apparition who thrives off of the audiences desire for an amazing musical experience. Drums pound musical energy; synthesizer darts across a dreamscape of sound; samples connect you to echoes of the musical world we think we know. GO SEE SLOW MAGIC!
The vibe, the visuals, the crowd, the set - absolutely everything exceeded my expectations. Every once in a while you have to put your phone down and agree to miss out on sharing the event on social media, to actually enjoy the event unfurling around you..... This was definitely that show. Can't wait to go to another!
About the best live performance you could possibly experience! The entire crowd was going off the rails when he stepped off the stage, melting into the crowd with his drums. You will without a shadow of a doubt leave with a feeling of pure joy glowing on the inside...(various emojis missing I couldn't use) :)
most awesome moment in my life the energy of the artist, the show and how he connected with the peolple was the most amazing moment. He showed us that we still can feel the electronic music and just be there for the music and not the artist.
