Over the course of a twenty year career, The Aquabats have made a name for themselves in both the musical and comedic worlds; their matching costumes and masks, designed to look like those of a superhero, have added an extra dimension to their music and in particular their live performances - their alleged crime-fighting is a staple of the comedic aspect of their gigs. That’s not to say, though, that these alternative personas and the focus on comedy has been developed purely as a distraction from their music; they’ve proven their diversity over the past couple of decades, having orginally started out as an eight-piece playing ska-influenced material, and gradually going on to reinvent themselves as a new wave act.
The current lineup includes two original members, frontman The M.C. Bat Commander and bassist Crash McLarson, as well as Jimmy the Robot on keyboards, Ricky Fitness behind the drum kit and Eagle ‘Bones’ Falconhawk on guitar. The sophisticated development of their comedic characters mythology has spawned a television series, ‘The Aquabats! Super Show!’, and is a major part of their live shows, too, with athletic mock fights and even fire-breathing from The M.C. Lars Commander amongst the onstage antics that they've made their signature.

This was my first time seeing the Aquabats and honestly it was the best show I have seen! I've been wanting to see them for ages! But when they came to Anaheim I was ecstatic! The Interupters opened up for the Aquabats and they got the crowd pumped. There was such a variety of ages from youngsters to older people and they all had a blast. The aquabats are by far the most unique band I have seen live; they keep the crowd off their feet from jumping to skankin'. As they played each song in the background they would have a video related to the song which would make it funny. And speaking of funny they were always so hilarious like the lead singer, "The Bat Commander", would always be full of energy hopping around and dancing. And during breaks they would have "commercials" that would never be on a Tv but had the crowd laughing. The aquabats would also interact with all ages making the little ones laugh and the mature ones as well. One thing I do suggest is to make sure your child is in a safe spot because so many little kids would almost get hurt by older ones. The aquabats have props to keep the crowd entertained; with beach balls, blow up sharks, and throwing water to refresh us. If you have ever thought of going to an Aquabats in concert I highly suggest to go! Can't pass up an amazing concert. By far they are the most unique band alive!
The Aquabats! This is far and away one of my favorite ska-punk bands and they put on one of the most fabulously entertaining and interactive shows of anyone in this genre. Christian Jacobs has been heavily involved with the scene for years, as well as TV shows like Yo Gabba Gabba! The unique take on ska-punk with a superhero theme is extremely entertaining.
The whole band gets into costume and character for the show -- in the back you'll get a video screen portraying a number of animations and skits. The group does skits on stage, and their antics will leave you in stitches. The set does not have the grand and elaborate sets like some of the more popular artists, but they will be sure to interact and make you feel like you are part of the show.
The crowd at an Aquabats! show is one of the most fun and interesting collections of people you're likely to see at a show this size. Several hundred people who are really in tune with the feel of the music and the atmosphere makes it very personal and enjoyable. There will be dancing, moshing, and singing to your hearts content.
Expect to hear a wide variety of songs off of all the studio albums, including your favorites from 'The Return of the Aquabats' and 'The Fury of the Aquabats'. There's nothing better than being swept away in 'Super Rad' or 'Red Sweater' live and in-person!
the aquabats put on the concert of a lifetime. Put simply, there was nothing to improve. Fans of all ages enjoyed the show. There was a good balance of new and old material, as well as some from the new tv show. As for happenings in the show, everything was incredibly high energy. I went to the 20th anniversary tour, and they didn't seem to be slowing down at all. The girl in front of me actually passed out, but they were great about getting security to help her out. They mixed in some projection onto a screen behind them, and an awesome fight scene. As for things thrown out into the crowd, there were 3 tennis balls, beach balls, the contents of several water bottles, guitar picks, and numerous chicken nuggets. at the end, the kids were brought up on stage, two of them crowdsurf-raced on pool toys, and they chose the song to end on: pool party. While the audience was generally child friendly, a parent needs to realize that it still is a rock/ska concert. Kids might want to sit on shoulders or could get a bit bumped around near the front. Still, don't let this dissuade you. It'll make the little homie's week. Bring ear protection for them. It's loud!
Saw the Aquabats with PPL MVR on Wednesday, November 6th in Portland. As usual, the Bats were super interactive with the crowd. Loads of banter. Given that it was the first show of the tour, it was a little more loosey-goosey than normal. Still a wonderful, fun show. If you've never seen the Aquabats, and are on the fence about seeing them, DON'T HESITATE!
The surprise of the night were PPL MVR. Before the show, my wife said to me, "I don't give a shit about seeing the Sasquatch band." They blew us away. Great sound, and so much fun. Will definitely see them again and added them to my tracked bands on Songkick.
The greatest show. Ever. Of all time. You need to do yourself a favor and catch their live show.
Do it.
Don't question it.
Do it.
Listen, you may not like ska. No excuse. They are new wave rock now. With ska influences.
They are all age shows. Take your kid. Take your niece or nephew. Find a friend with a kid and buy them both a ticket.
Seriously, totes worth it.
One of the best shows I have been to. The band was super enjoyable, interacted with the crowd, and had stuff planned for everyone there. The young to middle aged adults could skank, the small ones got to go on stage, it was fantastic. The quality of the music was also superb. Sounds just like the albums. Hope they come up to Seattle again!
One of the best shows I've been to. Very interactive and high energy. The kids had a blast as well as me and my husband. Kids got to go on stage with the band and my oldest got to crowd surf in a giant inflatable pizza. Won't forget it. Been waiting for years to see you guys in Canada. Thank so much.
I loved it but had a vip table seat. But omg had no idea kids? Show it was supposed to be an 18 and over show even had to show your ID and then I walked in and oh my God there's kids and families I'm sitting with the family it was cute but whoa still danced like nineteen skankty- nine. Lol
Fantastic night out. This band should have been headlining. Funny guys, great music, mad antics with evil villains and loads of inflatable sharks, pizza slices and Aquabat balls thrown into the audience for added entertainment. Would definitely go and see them again. Top Band.
If the Aquabats are playing in your town, make it a MISSION to go. It's going to be an absolute party the whole setlist. It's one of things you cannot miss. It's that good.
