Saw L.A. Witch open for The Kills, & L.A. Witch was the real revelation of the night. My two-word review for them, arrived at mid-2nd song, was "hypnotic filth" (& I mean that as positively as possible...w/ their brooding rock, dey nasty). I liked what I could find of theirs online pre-show & they were even stronger live which, given their *heavy* sound, is no small feat. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the band creating this sound was a 3-woman outfit (despite my knee-jerk twinge of liberal guilt at said surprise, having assumed it'd be guys backing the female lead singer based on their sound, lol). Live, their powerful drummer drove the bus & it would've ended up in a ditch if lead singer Sade Sanchez's vocals & lead guitar weren't both up to the task of matching that strength.
Also, I weave (heh) a silly note about Rock Hair: Whereas The Kills' Mosshart owned the stage, flailing about w/ her wild white hair, Sanchez seemed reticent/shy (bold performance aside), moving rarely & almost hiding behind her long black curls to the point that it was a surprise when she mildly engaged the crowd over halfway through their set. (Despite the diff. types of music & maybe a foot & 1/2's diff. in height, I nearly expected to hear Sanchez speed-count off, "1-2-3-4," immediately at the end of each song/before the next song, such was her visual similarity to Joey Ramone in this respect. :)
This time seeing L.A. Witch but first time in MY HOME TOWN! One of my wife's favorite bands and they did not disappoint (duh).
The opening acts blew the roof off the plane. Year of the Fist, Death Party at the Beach, and Thank You Come Again are so great. Year of the Fist has an amazing energy and connection with each other. Kicks, stage banter, crazy eyes... I'm in love. They were also very kind during chatter at the merch table.
Thank You Come Again was a huge surprise. I'd seen the band members in the crowd but when they took to the stage, I witnessed something I absolutely didn't expect and loved it all. Highly recommend catching them.
L.A. Witch was, as always, fantastic. I absolutely love their sound and in so excited to hear the new songs live. I saw them milling about the crowd leading up to their set but honestly, I'm too much in awe and far too smitten to make small talk. Crushtown for my wife and I.
Now the venue. I love the security and bar crew. Great folks. The sound guys are great too but i'll be damned if I don't blow my ears out every single time im in the Blue Lamp. This is the consequence of small spaces. I guess i've come to terms with the fact that it's kinda on me for not bringing plugs. I've been to several shows here and always have a great time, regardless of my beef with over- peaking levels.
LA Witch is an outstanding band!! I LOVED the show! Their brand of Power Pop Psych is just a blast!
But I had a bet with my partner in crime last night that they wouldn't be on stage long. He said an hour. I laughed and said 25 minutes. I won. 31 minutes later the gals called it quits.
I drove an hour, suffered through what was quite the WORST band I've ever witnessed, Vanishing Kids (they sucked doesn't come close to explaining how truly rotten this band is) and had to put up with outstanding openers,Levitation Room, play a similarly short equipment burdened, set. Thirty one minutes from a headliner is just too short!
But I guess the old adage leave them wanting more is still accurate. LA Witch was GREAT! The audience CRAVED more!
Straight ahead garage-blues rock w a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club-tinged feel to it. Played by an eclectic all-female group, the drummer thumps a solid beat and the bass lays down the background for the lithe brunette lead singer who is infinitely serious about her chords and melodic lines. Her confidence on her guitar takes on a quiet seriousness which is mirrored in her singing and interaction with the crowd. I'm waiting for her to break out of her shell the way Becky of Pack AD did over the last two years. Once her self-confidence with the crowd mirrors the self-confidence in her music-making, it hopefully will be a joy to see her personality bloom on stage so she can share it with the rest of us.

Wow, this was one of my favorite shows. I mainly went because my favorite band Warpaint played and they absolutely killed it. The openers were really good also. L.A. Witch is so wonderful, it was my second time seeing them and i would definitely go again, and i got to meet the singer, she was super sweet! Amazing show, i would kill to relive it. The Garden Twins were very interesting but i liked them. Overall i would give this show the highest rating! The aftershow was so dope also and the venue was beyond cool.
Freaking awesome! Second time seeing them and they get better every time. First time was at Bogarts in Cincinnati it’s a big place, they opened for the kills, and they rocked the house. Second time was a small venue, beat kitchen in Chicago, I like the small shows better I was just inches away from the band and it doesn’t get any better than that.
Great show, awesome energy. Good performance. My first time seeing L.A. Witch. Live performance was better than recorded songs, they are a fantastic group! Drummer was awesome! Singer/guitarist rocked that badass Fender Jazzmaster. Bass player on point. Great vibes from the group. Hope they come through this area again, I will be there!
Girls were great! Their performance was flawless. The only disadvantage was that they played for only half an hour, so some fantastic songs have not been on their repertoire. I am sad 'cause I came to the show only to see them, didn't even stayed for the main event. But, they were support band so it couldn't be any different.
Songkick posted the wrong date for the show and I missed it. Songkick shows it was in Sunday the 31st, It was actually Saturday the 30th. Way to go Song kick, maybe next time you will have more accurate information.
