Saying Samy Deluxe has a sick flow is an understatement. This German rapper is reminiscent of Jay Z or Kanye with his effortless verbal attack that slides wave-like over his catchy hip-hop hooks. As an English fan, you might not understand his native German but you can feel the heart he puts into his music. His rhythms are tight, drill-like in places, and you can appreciate his talent whether you understand the nuance of his words or not. Samy primarily tours in Germany, Austria and Switzerland where he has a significant following and has even won the MTV Europe Music Award for best German artist. Samy’s trademark seems to be his glasses – shades or optical – and his hat – anything from hood, to flat brim, to top hat – which he sports at every concert. His look is always hip hop casual with a tiny twist of business smart, reflecting his feelings of being slightly out of place within his middle-class upbringing, which he has referenced as inspiration for his work. Samy seems completely at home on the stage. He clearly loves his music and gets a kick out of sharing it with the world. There is no sense of awkwardness when Samy gets on stage, he chats and laughs with the crowds that come to see him rap, making his concerts feel intimate despite the thousands that he often performs to.
