Consisting of Australian DJ and producers Flume and Emoh Instead, mutually inspired for the love of surfing and clubbing and the feeling it evokes, collaborate as the electronic duo known as What So Not. Fusing afro-beat, dub and house, the duo released their debut EP ‘7 Dollar Bill’ in 2011 which was praised by fellow peers Switch and Sinden for their direction and new sound. Releasing their latest EP ‘T he Quack’ through Skrillex’s own imprint label, they went above and beyond with guest features from heavyweights such as: Action Bronson and Blood Diamonds which caught the attention of big names: Diplo and Bauuer. Their biggest single to date ‘Jaguar’ dropped in 2013 on their Soundcloud page and within four hours it had already raked up over 15,000 plays and eventually surpassed the two million mark. With continual hype surrounding them, the duo have relentlessly been touring all over Australia and New Zealand, extending to America as well as playing festivals such as Field Day, Shore Thing and Beach Life with man of the moment, Skrillex. In the little time that they’ve been going, What So Not have managed to build an incredible reputation. Known for their crazy live energy, What So Not go out with a mission of wanting to make people move and not just fist pump- and they do not disappoint. Effortlessly creating a unique atmosphere which engulfs the crowd as they really get into the music, dancing to their own beat. With great control of the crowd, What So Not emulate the perfect environment for self-expression aided by their incredible ability to connect with the audience.
What So Not was the original DJ duo that popular EDM producer Flume belonged to along with Emoh Instead. Now the sole operation of Emoh, the man is intent on continuing to maintain the high quality that fans of their live show have come to expect over the years.
The whole operation is known to be an expert combination of electro/dance music, visuals and lighting which is more than a DJ set and an all consuming dance experience. Emoh does not disappoint when leading the operation single handed, although the dual frontman roles are now diminished, he still has an ability to hype a crowd with ease and dropping singles such as 'Jaguar' keeps every gig goer bouncing along happily to the music. The collaborations with George Maple also sound great and with an added remix extension they are able to maintain the feel good atmosphere. The audience would happily stay out all evening beneath the blistering lighting displays yet Emoh succinctly closes the show with a brilliant version of 'High You Are' which is received with thunderous applause.
Although it was a very small stage, I still manage to enjoy every second he was on. This was a $16 concert and I got more out of it than I paid for. Knowing that he performs in big stages like EDC, and coming to Spire really made me happy. Also I made a shape of a heart with my hands and he acknowledged me :)! That was my favorite part and If Chirs ever reads this please come back! Make an appearance @ Day For Night this winter or something! I would to see What So Not in a bigger stage!!
SO MUCH FUN!
As a new member to the EDM community, I was questioning whether I really wanted to go to this concert...then he released Divide & Conquer and that sh*t was FIRE!! No more questioning, I bought my ticket and jumped.
I couldn't have been happier with my decision. Concert/Set was HOTT and at over an hour, I walked out tired, soaked in sweat, and a smile ear-to-ear.
For anyone that missed this, I'll see ya at the next one!! ~no doubt about it!~
That was one of the best concerts I been to in awhile. The Marc is a great venue, VIP a little bit much but ok they in it to make me but the staff is great. The opening acts were good notreat but good. But when What So Not hit the decks it got turnt up real quick and never let go till the night was over. Love the way he engaged the crowd and the throw back from the day from Toto slayed me
Hot sh*t. Homie brought the noize fo sho!!!
Such a hard show to top!!! What So Not is AMAZING. He had Seattle pumped even on a Sunday night. It was wild. Some of his songs are my favorite and it’s such a cool experience seeing and hearing them live. Definitely go see him if you have the chance!
What So Not was rowdy. Second time I have seen Emoh and won't be the last! If you have the chance to see him perform, do not miss out. Worth every penny.
