Seeing musicians play live is always incredible, and when they play their own instruments, it’s even more astounding experiencing the talent that one individual can be in command of. Seeing Gerald Albright’s live show blew me away from start to finish, as he journeyed through his tracks on saxophone, bass, keys, and vocals in a seemingly effortless manner, constantly confident in his performance, and putting in every effort to entertain his audience.
As the stage lights came up, Albright made his way centre stage with his saxophone, and opened the show with an awesome piece that I’d not hears before, supported by his band, playing incredible jazz and blues tunes. He then introduced himself and cracked some jokes before switching to piano, and launching into Giving Myself To You. He absolutely smashed it, and had everyone singing and cheering along for the whole song.
He was great at interacting with the audience, and got everyone up on their feet to sing and dance along. Although the show was only 90 minutes long, it was worth every penny. The energy that Albright maintained throughout the show, giving every single track his absolute all was incredible, and he really blew everyone away. He’s one of those artists that you can enjoy on recordings, but the live versions are a hundred times better and more exciting.
Brother Gerald Albright is a very talented musician. He adds enjoyment and excitement plus mental challenges with the notes he hits and scales he runs on his saxophone. He also gets the crowd involved so it becomes like an old time church meeting with the congregation (audience) responding to the preacher (Gerald Albright). His rendition and interpretation of James Brown's, "This Is a Man's World" would make JB proud. After the concerts, Gerald Albright is always available to meet and greet his fans and friends. He freely autographs his CDs and poses for pictures alone and with fans who want to be photographed with him. Yes, Gerald is an outstanding musician, but even above that, he is an outstanding individual. He has certainly made a lasting mark in the world of music - and is making that mark deeper whenever he performs, but his greatest marks are in the hearts of those he touches with the genuine warmth and love he demonstrates as a person. Wherever hs is performing, I strongly recommend going out to see and meet him. His music will live on for a very long time; his "manly deeds" will live on forever.
