Well that turned out to be a pleasant surprise!
When an older member of your family wants to go to a concert you feel a bit dizzy at the thought, because you do not know who exactly they will want to go and see and I'm sure my great aunt is not a fan of Rhianna (no offense Rhianna).
So anyway it became pretty apparent that we were going to be seeing a band known as Canadian Brass, a band which has been around for over 30 years, they have been described as "Kings of Brass" a compliment of the highest in my opinion!
Anyway arriving to the concert I saw audience members of all ages which did surprise me, I thought it would be those quite a bit older to me but it was not like that at all, there were young, middle aged and the aged. This band had fans in all age ranges.
They stepped on stage and had nice friendly personalities, matching their music of course, this is when I was about to learn that even I could enjoy brass music! The band played their song 'American Patrol' it was very relaxing and actually exciting in a sense, it was very easy going and it brought the audience together, some members began doing the Jive dance and others tapped their feet. It was as if I was at a ball in one of those films like The Great Gatsby or The Titanic, it just had such an authentic feel, I loved it!
I recommend any brave souls out there, to take a risk with Brass and fall in love just like me!
This was the first time I saw the Canadian Brass, and I had never been to the Mt. Gretna Playhouse, either. LOVED them both! The venue is relatively small, and CB was able to interact with the audience, entering down an aisle and later, placing themselves in and around the audience to play an antiphonal piece. The acoustics were great- we could easily hear each musician, whether they were playing or singing or speaking. I did not know that there would be singing. And thought they would not be able to top that... until they performed while "dancing" a ballet! Great fun, lotsa laughs, and omigosh, great talented brass players! Even got to meet them after the show. I will be back! HIGHLY recommend!!
Life of the party! Took my daughter (2nd time) and a couple of her friends (1st time for both) and REALLY enjoyed it. My daughter and I are both Tuba players, and her friends play Trombone and Clarinet, and are just awestruck at the ability of this group. I've been following the Canadian Brass since the 80s, and they continue to amaze even with the new blood in the group!
They are more than musicians, they are story tellers and do an amazing job! Performances are suitable for all ages and the group is readily available for photos and autographs after the concert. One of the few performance groups that encourage photography!
Please come back to NC more often!
The show was wonderful; very entertaining! The musicians are very talented and never cease to amaze us. Chris Coletti and the others have amazing talents and their antics just make the show even more enjoyable. I brought a friend and she was so delighted with the performance.
I hope to attend more shows and hope that they can play at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg sometime soon. I know that the people here would be delighted to attend the show.
Great performance! I've always loved Canadian Brass, and that Ragtime Tuba solo was fantacissimo. Same reaction when they played Flight of the Bumblebee. Excellent stage presence and the spiels weren't dull as some can be.
I love the Canadian Brass! I had to opportunity of seeing them once before and they are just as awesome as before ! So entertaining and a variety of styles to keep the audience interested.
